{"id":93883,"date":"2023-12-24T07:52:55","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T05:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=93883"},"modified":"2023-12-24T07:52:55","modified_gmt":"2023-12-24T05:52:55","slug":"455m-intl-financing-package-to-develop-damietta-terminal-under-sdgs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/455m-intl-financing-package-to-develop-damietta-terminal-under-sdgs\/","title":{"rendered":"$455m int\u2019l financing package to develop Damietta terminal under SDGs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">A consortium of international institutions is supporting the development of a second container terminal in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpa.gov.eg\/\">Damietta Port<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\">Egypt<\/a> with special focus on upgrading its environmental and social management system in line with the lenders\u2019 environmental, health and safety guidelines and international best practice.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The financing package includes US$ 125 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/ebrds-150-loan-to-cib-to-strengthen-egypts-financial-sector\/\">(EBRD<\/a>), $ 120 million from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifc.org\/en\/home\">International Finance Corporation<\/a> (IFC), $ 100 million from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiib.org\/en\/index.html\">Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank<\/a> (AIIB), $ 60 million from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deginvest.de\/index-2.html\">German development finance institution DEG<\/a> and $ 50 million from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proparco.fr\/en\">Proparco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The funding will help triple the port\u2019s container capacity and improve its competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.damiettaalliance.com\/\">Damietta Alliance Container Terminals<\/a>\u00a0is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established by Eurogate, Contship Italia, Hapag Lloyd, MELC Group and Ship &amp; C.R.E.W to design, develop, operate and maintain the terminal under a 30-year concession.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Additional support will also focus on delivering a skills development program for people living in the Damietta region in partnership with local vocational schools with a focus on women\u2019s participation in the work force.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Damietta Port is an attractive shipping site in the Mediterranean and has a strategic location close to the Suez Canal, with direct road connections to Cairo, Alexandria and the Nile Delta.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The development of the terminal comes as a response to the growing demand for container traffic in Egyptian ports.
