{"id":93874,"date":"2023-12-22T14:10:15","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T12:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=93874"},"modified":"2023-12-22T14:10:15","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T12:10:15","slug":"how-new-gri-standards-to-be-issued-in-2024-serve-cop28-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/how-new-gri-standards-to-be-issued-in-2024-serve-cop28-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"How new GRI Standards to be issued in 2024 serve COP28 goals?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Two new standards of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/gri-sustainability-innovation-lab-to-enable-firms-meet-sustainability-disclosure-requirements\/\">Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)<\/a> are expected to be issued in early 2024 in the field of biodiversity and mining.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The two new standards have been approved by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) during its last week and will now progress to the Due Process Oversight Committee for a final assessment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The new year will also see two recently introduced GRI Standards come into effect;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/standards\/standards-development\/sector-standard-for-agriculture-aquaculture-and-fishing\/\">GRI 13: Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fishing Sectors<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/standards\/standards-development\/sector-standard-for-coal\/\">GRI 12: Coal Sector<\/a>. This will mean that any organizations reporting in accordance with the GRI Standards, and operating in these sectors, will be required to use them from 1 January 2024.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The conclusion of COP28, and the debate on \u2018phasing out\u2019 fossil fuels, once again makes it abundantly clear why the world needs much greater transparency on the impacts of organizations related to climate change, and how they are managing them. To address this, the GSSB approved a proposed GRI Climate Change Standard, now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/standards\/standards-development\/project-for-climate-change-standards\/\">out for public comment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:7138877564793634816\/\">overview<\/a> shows the Standard\u2019s main elements and how they enable greater transparency on organizations\u2019 targets to phase out fossil fuels as well as the impacts of transition and adaptation plans and GHG removals and carbon credit projects on people such as workers, and communities, and on the environment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Harold Pauwels and Margherita Barbieri from the Standards Division were on the ground at COP to engage with stakeholders and communicate about the key role of the GRI Standards in climate reporting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two new standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) are expected to be issued in early 2024 in the field of biodiversity and mining.
