Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief Center) pledged to provide $15 million to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)<\/a> in response to the agency\u2019s Flash Appeal to secure the most critical humanitarian needs of an estimated 1.6 million people in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Supervisor General of the KS Relief Center, and UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini signed the agreement in Cairo, thus consolidating a longstanding partnership that has already contributed to saving lives and improving living conditions of Palestine Refugees over the years.<\/p>\n

Al-Rabeeah, said “This support comes in response to the directives of His Majesty the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to provide support to our brothers and sisters in Gaza as they face tragic circumstances. The Kingdom has always stood by Palestinians, a position of principle that we continue to hold during this devastating war.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Updated Flash Appeal<\/a>\u00a0seeks to secure the most critical humanitarian needs of an estimated 1.6 million people in the Gaza Strip. UNRWA is sheltering more than one million people, both Palestine Refugees and non-refugees, who are seeking protection under the United Nations flag in 156 of its schools and premises. Assistance will include food, shelter and non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene items, emergency health and cash assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past seven weeks, people in Gaza have endured unspeakable suffering. They are in shock over the huge losses they have endured. Many are reliving traumas of the past, forced displacement, uncertainty, and pain. We are grateful for\u00a0this timely contribution from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as we work to reach as many people as possible with lifesaving assistance,\u201d said Commissioner-General Lazzarini.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the humanitarian pause starts today, we aim to bring into the Gaza Strip as many humanitarian supplies as possible, to distribute them everywhere we can, including in the north. But only a long-standing humanitarian ceasefire will truly make a difference, with a continuous flow of supplies and fuel in the Gaza Strip. The people of Gaza can endure no more death, destruction and deprivation of the basic necessities of life,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Commissioner-General Lazzarini called on Arab States to secure necessary financial support to UNRWA, as the Agency is the largest UN operating entity on the ground in the Gaza Strip, and to maintain their support for the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
