{"id":92138,"date":"2023-10-19T20:53:01","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T17:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=92138"},"modified":"2023-10-20T21:01:54","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T18:01:54","slug":"ebrd-extends-50m-to-egypt-umc-to-promote-green-energy-transition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-extends-50m-to-egypt-umc-to-promote-green-energy-transition\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD extends $ 50m to Egypt UMC to promote green energy transition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/ebrds-20m-loan-to-egypts-edible-oil-firm-afia-to-help-face-food-security-challenges\/\">European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> has earmarked a $ 50 million loan to support Egypt&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elsewedyelectric.com\/en\/business-lines\/wire-cable-accessories\/metals\/\">United Metals Company (UMC)<\/a>, a copper rod manufacturer, as copper is a key material contributing to the green energy transition in Egypt and Africa.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Amid foreign exchange scarcity in Egypt and rising global commodity prices, including for copper, the Bank\u2019s loan will finance the working capital of UMC, including for importing copper cathodes, which are key to the production of cables.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">UMC is a subsidiary of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elsewedyelectric.com\/en\/home\/\">Elsewedy Electric<\/a>, an Egyptian industrial group that has a strong presence in Africa, Europe and Asia, and is listed on the Egyptian stock exchange in Cairo. Elsewedy Electric is one of the largest cable and electrical product manufacturers in the Middle East and Africa, with 30 production facilities in 14 different countries.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">UMC was established in 1998, and is one of the leading producers of high-quality copper rods in Egypt and North Africa.
