{"id":91490,"date":"2023-09-30T10:35:37","date_gmt":"2023-09-30T07:35:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=91490"},"modified":"2023-10-01T10:37:22","modified_gmt":"2023-10-01T07:37:22","slug":"germany-contributes-further-e40-m-to-whos-work-in-health-emergencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/germany-contributes-further-e40-m-to-whos-work-in-health-emergencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany contributes further \u20ac40 m to WHO\u2019s work in health emergencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Germany contributed a further \u20ac40 million to the World Health Organization (WHO)\u2019s work in health emergencies, with half of the funds for emergencies in Africa and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Of the new \u20ac40 million contribution, \u20ac20 million goes to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/who-warns-climate-change-behind-unprecedented-cholera-outbreaks\/\"> WHO<\/a> Health Emergencies Appeal 2023, \u20ac10 million to the Ukraine emergency, \u20ac10 million for emergencies in Africa.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">With the new contribution, Germany has provided \u20ac53.5 million so far this year to support WHO\u2019s response to more than 50 active health emergencies.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This deepened Germany\u2019s longstanding engagement with WHO as Germany has also signed a deal to host the Berlin-based WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u201cThis is important because climate disasters, conflicts, and the ongoing pandemic demand urgent action,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auswaertiges-amt.de\/en\/about-us\/leadership-federal-foreign-office\/sts-baumann-node\/state-secretary-leendertse\/232106\">Susanne Baumann, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office for Germany (GFFO)<\/a>, whose delegation met with WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. \u201cOur support is flexible and vital for saving lives around the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Through the GFFO, the country provides substantial funding to humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, Libya, Ukraine, Yemen, and to Ebola responses in Africa.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Germany is an all-time top donor to WHO\u2019s Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE), having contributed \u20ac115 million since the CFE\u2019s inception in 2015. The contributions have made a significant impact on the health of people caught up in humanitarian crises; this year alone, CFE funding allowed WHO to bring immediate, lifesaving support to victims of floods in Libya, conflict in Sudan, cholera and diphtheria outbreaks, and earthquakes in T\u00fcrkiye and Syria.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Thursday\u2019s meeting also featured the signing of a host agreement for the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence. The Hub was established with Germany\u2019s support in Berlin in September 2021 to provide the world with better data, analytics and decisions to detect and respond to health emergencies.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Coinciding with the signing of the host agreement, the German government held the high-level conference \u201cPandemics: no time for neglect,\u201d which focused on political priorities and actions on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, along with financing for resilient health systems.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cAfter last week\u2019s historic political declaration at the UN General Assembly committing to stronger collaboration, investments, and governance to prevent, prepare, and respond to future pandemics, I am appreciative of Germany\u2019s leadership leveraging the political momentum to host this high-level forum,\u201d Dr Tedros said. \u201cWe must continue the dialogue to align on strengthening and financing health systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germany contributed a further \u20ac40 million to the World Health Organization (WHO)\u2019s work in health emergencies, with half of the funds for emergencies in Africa and Ukraine.
