{"id":91270,"date":"2023-09-20T23:23:18","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T20:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=91270"},"modified":"2023-09-22T09:21:29","modified_gmt":"2023-09-22T06:21:29","slug":"ifc-banque-du-caire-team-up-to-back-decarbonizing-egypts-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ifc-banque-du-caire-team-up-to-back-decarbonizing-egypts-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"IFC, Banque du Caire team up to back decarbonizing Egypt&#8217;s economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is partnering with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/banque-misr-earmarks-egp-50-m-to-bolster-decent-life-efforts-in-villages\/\"> Banque du Caire<\/a> to develop a climate finance strategy that will help protect the bank from climate risks, invest in green activities, and support the decarbonization of Egypt&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">With 95 percent of Egyptians living on roughly 5 percent of the country&#8217;s land near bodies of water, Egypt is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change including water scarcity, droughts, rising sea levels, and extreme weather.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">To support the move to a greener, climate-resilient economy, the government of Egypt in June 2023 updated its <a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/sites\/default\/files\/NDC\/2022-07\/Egypt%20Updated%20NDC.pdf.pdf\">Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)<\/a> \u2013 the country&#8217;s self-defined national climate pledges \u2013 with an ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 37 percent by 2030.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">IFC&#8217;s climate advisory project with Banque du Caire supports the country&#8217;s NDC goals by helping the bank increase its strategic exposure to projects that will improve the country&#8217;s climate outlook.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">As part of the project, IFC will conduct an internal assessment for Banque du Caire, review the bank&#8217;s portfolio of existing climate finance assets, and screen its portfolio against climate risks. The goal is to ultimately assist the bank in transforming its climate finance strategy into an actionable workplan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;Our strategy at Banque du Caire is to develop the instruments and tools that provide us with long-term sustainable growth and security.
