Norway will provide a voluntary contribution of $45 million to finance educational programs being implemented by UNESCO<\/a> worldwide.<\/p>\n

The funding from Norway\u00a0will support UNESCO\u2019s education program from 2023 to 2025, and\u00a0will significantly boost UNESCO\u2019s initiatives on education for\u00a0health and well-being<\/a>, among other programs. This agreement will also make it possible to scale up the UNESCO\u00a0Qualifications Passport<\/a>\u00a0for Refugees and Vulnerable Migrants. Successfully tested in recent years, it helps recognize prior academic, professional, and vocational qualifications of forcibly displaced people so they can access learning opportunities abroad.<\/p>\n

Norway has long demonstrated its commitment to UNESCO\u2019s work in education. Through its agency for development cooperation (Norad), the country contributes to program operations mostly in least developed countries and in emergency contexts.<\/p>\n

Norway\u2019s investments have also supported UNESCO\u2019s Global Education Monitoring Report and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, which both play a key role in monitoring global efforts towards educational goals. They have also benefitted work around comprehensive sexuality education, and promoted stronger school health systems and the prevention of school violence and bullying.<\/p>\n

This new contribution from Norway comes in addition to the country’s $20 million contribution to UNESCO\u00a0in 2022<\/a>, to support actions for culture, heritage and freedom of the press.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNESCO is honored by this exceptional multi-year agreement, which reflects the quality partnership and trust we share with Norway \u2013 as well as the relevance of the education programs implemented by our Organization,\u201d Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no peace, no sustainable development, without education. Thanks to this funding from Norway, UNESCO will step up its action worldwide to guarantee everyone’s right to quality lifelong learning,\u201d Azoulay said<\/p>\n

\u201cI highly appreciate UNESCO\u2019s initiative and leadership in education. UNESCO\u2019s normative role and concrete field programs make the Organization a highly valued partner to Norway,\u201d Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, Norway\u2019s Minister of International Development, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEducation is fundamental for achieving poverty reduction, gender equality and climate action. We are very happy to increase our support and to enter into a long-term agreement with UNESCO. Together, let us promote good quality education for all,\u201d Tvinnereim said.<\/p>\n
