{"id":88085,"date":"2023-05-30T23:44:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T20:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=88085"},"modified":"2023-05-30T23:44:17","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T20:44:17","slug":"digital-learning-week-to-mark-launch-of-unesco-guidelines-for-use-of-ai-in-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/digital-learning-week-to-mark-launch-of-unesco-guidelines-for-use-of-ai-in-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Learning Week to mark launch of UNESCO guidelines for use of AI in education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/weeks\/digital-learning\">Digital Learning Week<\/a>, to be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 4 to 7 September, will witness the launch of UNESCO\u2019s guidelines on the use of generative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/as-ai-enters-music-realm-can-robot-conductor-have-human-touch\/\">AI<\/a> in education and research, as well as\u00a0frameworks of AI competencies\u00a0for students and teachers for classrooms.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Institutions are facing\u00a0myriad challenges in crafting an immediate response\u00a0to the sudden emergence of these powerful AI apps, according to a new UNESCO survey of more than 450 schools and universities.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cGenerative AI opens new horizons and challenges for education, but we\u00a0urgently need to take action\u00a0to ensure that new AI technologies are integrated into education on our terms,\u201d said Stefania Giannini, UNESCO\u2019s Assistant Director-General for Education. \u201cIt is our duty to prioritize safety, inclusion, diversity, transparency and quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Less than 10 per cent of schools and universities follow formal guidance on using wildly popular artificial intelligence (AI) tools, like the chatbot software ChatGPT, according to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/\">UNESCO<\/a>), which hosted more than 40 ministers at an groundbreaking\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/articles\/ministerial-roundtable-generative-ai-education\">online meeting<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">At the same time, governments worldwide are in the process of shaping appropriate policy responses\u00a0in a rapidly evolving education landscape, while further developing or refining national strategies on AI, data protection, and other regulatory frameworks, according to UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">However, they are proceeding with caution. Risks to using these tools can see students\u00a0exposed to false or biased information, some ministers said at the global meeting.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The debate revealed other\u00a0common concerns, including how to mitigate the chatbots\u2019 inherent flaws of producing glaring errors. Ministers also addressed how best to\u00a0integrate these tools into curricula, teaching methods, and exams, and\u00a0adapting education systems\u00a0to the disruptions which generative AI is quickly causing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Many highlighted the\u00a0vital role teachers play in this new era\u00a0as learning facilitators.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">But, teachers need guidance and training to meet these challenges, according to UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">For its part, the agency will continue to steer the global dialogue with policy makers, partners, academia, and civil society, in line with its paper,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000376709\">AI and education: A guide for policy-makers<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000381137\">Recommendation on the Ethics of AI<\/a>, as well as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000368303\">Beijing Consensus<\/a>\u00a0on Artificial Intelligence and Education.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Digital Learning Week, to be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 4 to 7 September, will witness the launch of UNESCO\u2019s guidelines on the use of generative AI in education and research, as well as\u00a0frameworks of AI competencies\u00a0for students and teachers for classrooms.
