Animal, plant, and marine biodiversity comprise the &#8220;natural capital&#8221; that keeps our ecosystems functional and economies productive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; background: white; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; background: white; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/handle\/10986\/36047\"><span style=\"color: #0071bc;\">Half of the world\u2019s GDP depends on biodiversity and ecosystem services<\/span><\/a>\u00a0which include things like fresh water and timber, carbon storage and sequestration, natural landscapes that support tourism, and soil formation. With a steep decline in natural capital in the last 50 years, at least one million species are threatened with extinction. World Bank projects are helping countries integrate nature-based solutions in transport and urban development, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; and in a variety of projects like watershed management, integrated coastal management, and protected areas that maintain or enhance ecosystem services while helping countries achieve their development goals and climate change
