{"id":82857,"date":"2022-11-19T22:58:18","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T20:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=82857"},"modified":"2022-11-19T22:58:18","modified_gmt":"2022-11-19T20:58:18","slug":"who-fifa-launching-new-digital-app-to-increase-physical-activity-of-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/who-fifa-launching-new-digital-app-to-increase-physical-activity-of-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"WHO, FIFA launching new digital app to increase physical activity of young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The World Health Organization (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/who-pavilion-at-cop27-to-hold-over-40-side-events-on-climate-related-health-issues\/\">WHO<\/a>) and FIFA are launching a new digital app, <a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/genmove-pr\">GenMove<\/a>, designed to help increase physical activity and improve the health and well-being of millions of young people.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/genmove-pr\" data-sf-ec-immutable=\"\">GenMove<\/a>, Season1 is a games app that uses advanced movement tracking combined with artificial intelligence (AI) technology to provide 8\u201315-year-olds with a vigorous video game experience. The games call for a range of different movements that develop different physical skills and are suitable for children with all levels of fitness.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/publications-detail-redirect\/9789240015128\">WHO recommends<\/a>\u00a0all children and adolescents get an average of 60 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per day, including activities that strengthen muscles and bones at least 3 times a week. Yet, more than 80% of adolescents do not meet these recommendations and it is estimated that children and adolescents can spend more than 8 hours of their waking day being sedentary and inactive, a behavior associated with poor fitness, weight gain and reduced sleep. The app is hoped to spur many similar initiatives to get children more active around the world.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cRegular physical activity has major, lifelong benefits for physical and mental health, and is essential for the healthy development of children,\u201d said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. \u201cThis kind of digital innovation can be a powerful tool to reach young people and get them moving, especially children who might not play sports regularly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">GenMove games are built around popular sports such as football and involve actions such as jumping, reaching and kicking to build kids\u2019 confidence and enjoyment of moving.\u00a0The games can be played inside or outside and need only a mobile phone or tablet (IOS or Android) and a small space to get children active.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Alisson Becker, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Health Promotion and Brazil\u2019s national goalkeeper, said: \u201cI love GenMove. Technology opens the world for everybody, but sometimes it can make you stay seated for too much time. So, the GenMove platform helps you with that. At the same time, you can have fun with your kids, or themselves alone, and be doing something healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThe cost to the public health care systems of physical inactivity is very high,\u201d says Dr Fiona Bull, head of the Physical Activity Unit at WHO. \u201cTherefore, getting children to enjoy being active and build habits into every day is critical to preventing future noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, overweight and obesity, hypertension, diabetes and many cancers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">GenMove is being teamed up with a complementary football themed FIFA campaign \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/17-11-2022-fifa-world-cup--players-to--bringthemoves-and-encourage-kids-to-exercise\">\u201cBring the Moves\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which encourages young people to share their goal-celebration moves online and generate a following of active young people throughout the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA are launching a new digital app, GenMove, designed to help increase physical activity and improve the health and well-being of millions of young people.
