{"id":78930,"date":"2022-07-20T23:15:37","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T21:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=78930"},"modified":"2022-07-20T23:15:37","modified_gmt":"2022-07-20T21:15:37","slug":"afdb-earmarks-271-m-to-back-egypts-food-security-economic-resilience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/afdb-earmarks-271-m-to-back-egypts-food-security-economic-resilience\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB earmarks $ 271 m to back Egypt\u2019s food security, economic resilience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/african-development-bank-to-provide-40-m-to-support-angolas-smes\/\">The African Development Bank (AfDB) <\/a>decided to extend a loan of $ 271 million to finance Egypt\u2019s Food Security and Economic Resilience Support Program to support efforts to mitigate the impact of the global shocks on the domestic economy from the Russia-Ukraine conflict and to preserve resilience.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The program includes two major components; Support for the Food Security Response and Build Private Sector and Fiscal Resilience.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The first component seeks to increase national agricultural productivity and mitigate food security risks for people in vulnerable situations. The program will support broad-based growth by increasing agricultural productivity and sustainability by setting additional incentives to encourage local farmers to grow wheat and increasing their share of subsidized fertilizers.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The second component will help enhance Egypt\u2019s private sector and fiscal resilience as a resilient private sector can be instrumental in reducing the economic and social impacts of the exogenous shocks.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Mohamed El Azizi, African Development Bank Director General for North Africa, explained that \u201cThis new operation integrates emergency measures as well as structural measures. Its objectives: strengthen food security and improve the resilience of the private sector and public finances\u201d.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWith food security quickly becoming a global challenge, international partnerships are needed to curb the impact of successive global crises, ensuring self-sufficiency and resilience.
