A beach clean-up campaign was launched in Alexandria in collaboration with the European Union in Cairo, youths of\u00a0Banlastic Egypt <\/a><\/u>as well as school students.<\/p>\n

This falls within the framework of directives of Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad to spread awareness about the dangers of plastic on the environment and maritime creatures.<\/p>\n

Fouad said the activity is meant to sensitize people about the problem of solid waste, especially plastic waste, that reach the maritime environment.<\/p>\n

About 32 beach clean-up campaigns were launched in Alexandria over the past two years, she said, noting that one of these campaigns\u00a0broke the\u00a0Guinness World Record<\/a>\u00a0for becoming the largest beach\u00a0cleaning campaign.<\/p>\n

The ministry is backing campaigns aiming to protect the environment from single-use plastic which causes grave harm to the environment.<\/p>\n

The law no 202 of 2020 regulates waste management and includes a number of incentives to get rid of virgin plastic to protect the environment.<\/p>\n
