PepsiCo Egypt<\/a> celebrated cutting 60 million liters of water consumption in 2021 under She Feeds the World or Aysheen Be-Kherha program that was launched in tandem with the Social Solidarity Ministry and the global poverty-fighting organization CARE in Beheira, Menya and Beni Suef.<\/p>\n

The program \u2013 which falls within the framework of #PepsiCoPositive<\/a> strategy (pep+)- aims to empower women and achieve gender equality in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

\u00a0PepsiCo Egypt CEO\u00a0Mohamed\u00a0Shelbaya said \u201cWe are proud of the achievement realized under the program at the local level.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the program marks an important step in empowering women in general and in the agricultural field in particular, referring to PepiCo\u2019s long experience in this domain.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cWe managed to reduce 60 million liters of water consumption instead of 31.8 million liters in 2021. This highlights our success in spreading the upright agricultural practices. This will pave the ground for attaining the aspired international goal of improving the lives of more than 250,000 persons in PepsiCo\u2019s agricultural supply chain by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added \u201cthe company seeks to save 100 million liters of water in 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program secures technical assistance to boost agricultural land production in addition to spreading awareness about using best ways to preserve water resource.<\/p>\n

The program also seeks to spread awareness about healthy nutrition.<\/p>\n

In the Upper Egypt governorate of Menya, the program provided over 1000 farmers with technical assistance and training for using the right irrigation methods and rationalizing water consumption.<\/p>\n

Under the program, modern irrigation methods were used in over 30 feddans.<\/p>\n

The program realized outstanding results in increasing the income of female farmers. About 6,566 females joined rural saving and loan groups. A total of 634 investment loans were offered.<\/p>\n

More than 520 farmers received technical assistance to plant potato on about 576.5 feddans in Beheira and Beni Suef.<\/p>\n

The program is implemented in several other countries at international level.<\/p>\n

The PepsiCo Foundation, the philanthropic arm of one of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, announced in March 2019 a partnership with the global poverty-fighting organization CARE with an $18.2 million grant to tackle gender inequality in the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n

The grant will provide 5 million female farmers and their families around the world with education, resources and economic support to help them increase their crop yields, incomes and access to nutrition locally.<\/p>\n

This partnership is part of a broader effort by PepsiCo to support a more sustainable food system by empowering women in its own agricultural supply chain, including through its Sustainable Farming Program currently active in 38 countries, and by investing in multisector agricultural programs that have the potential to achieve systems change at scale.<\/p>\n

To meet the nutrition needs of a growing global population, CARE has launched She Feeds the World, <\/em>the largest food and nutrition security program in its 70-year history, benefiting 50 million female farmers and their families in the developing world.<\/p>\n
