It will generate debate around how to strengthen education as a public endeavor and common good, how to steer the digital transformation, support teachers, safeguard the planet and unlock the potential in every person to contribute to collective well-being and shared home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 8.35pt; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as\u00a0<a style=\"box-sizing: border-box;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ga\/search\/view_doc.asp?symbol=A\/RES\/73\/25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">International Day of Education<\/span><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px); overflow: hidden;\"><span class=\"element-invisible\"><span style=\"color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">(link is external)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 8.35pt; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Today, 258 million children and youth still do not attend school; 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic math; less than 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school and some four million children and youth refugees are out of school. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 8.35pt; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 8.35pt; text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">On 17 December 2021, United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus the resolution entitled \u201c<a style=\"box-sizing: border-box; outline: none; word-break: break-word;\" href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/en\/A\/C.2\/76\/L.40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">Education for sustainable development in the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/span><\/a>\u201d and called on member states to strengthen their efforts to prioritize education in the response and recovery from the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 8.35pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Amidst COVID 19 continued crisis, the international community agreed that the focus should be put on safely reopen educational institutions for in-person learning, based on scientific evidence and in consideration of local contexts.
