{"id":70208,"date":"2021-09-09T20:56:08","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T18:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=70208"},"modified":"2021-09-09T20:56:08","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T18:56:08","slug":"ebrd-extends-25-m-loan-to-fund-green-energy-projects-in-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-extends-25-m-loan-to-fund-green-energy-projects-in-egypt\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD extends $ 25 m loan to fund green energy projects in Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-boosts-egypts-smes-green-investment-with-50m-loan\/\"> European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> is boosting renewable energy and energy efficiency in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\">Egypt<\/a>\u00a0with a $ 25 million loan to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbk.com\/egypt.html\">National Bank of Kuwait Egypt (NBKE)<\/a>. Fifteen percent of the total loan amount is being co-financed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenclimate.fund\/\">Green Climate Fund (GCF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The funds will be on lent to Egyptian small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and households to finance investments to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The application of new technologies is expected to promote the transition to an environmentally sustainable, low-carbon and climate resilient economy in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The GCF and EBRD\u2019s partnership for transformation has seen the GCF support six EBRD programs to the tune of $ 830 million, catalyzing more than $ 3.6 billion in total project value. The GCF is the world\u2019s largest climate fund, supporting developing-country efforts to respond to the challenges of climate change.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This loan is being extended under the EBRD\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ebrdgeff.com\/egypt\/the-programme\/the-facility\/\">Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF),<\/a>\u00a0which provides finance and advice to private-sector businesses to support Egypt\u2019s green economy transition. The facility has a financing pool worth \u20ac140 million for energy-efficiency and renewable energy investments.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">NBKE is an Egyptian joint stock company and a subsidiary of the NBK group. It has been a partner of the EBRD since 2015, when it agreed an SME loan and a trade finance facility, followed in 2016 by an energy-efficiency loan under the Egypt GEFF.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Egypt is a founding member of the EBRD.\u00a0To date, the Bank has invested \u20ac7.7 billion in the country through 132 projects.
