{"id":70109,"date":"2021-09-07T12:38:01","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T10:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=70109"},"modified":"2021-09-07T12:38:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T10:38:02","slug":"eu-to-issue-e250-bn-green-bonds-between-2021-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/eu-to-issue-e250-bn-green-bonds-between-2021-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"EU to issue \u20ac250 bn green bonds between 2021-2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/eu-pledges-to-continue-supporting-egypts-green-transition\/\">European Commission<\/a> has adopted an independently evaluated Green Bond framework, thus taking a step forward towards the issuance of up to \u20ac250 billion green bonds, or 30% of NextGenerationEU&#8217;s total issuance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">The framework provides investors in these bonds with confidence that the funds mobilized will be allocated to green projects and that the Commission will report on its environmental impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">Now that the framework has been adopted, the commission will soon proceed with the first green bond issuance in the month of October, subject to market conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">Commissioner in charge of Budget and Administration, Johannes\u00a0<strong style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-weight: normal;\">Hahn<\/span><\/strong>, said \u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The EU&#8217;s intention to issue up to \u20ac250 billion in green bonds between now and end-2026 will make us the largest green bond issuer in the world. This is also an expression of our commitment to sustainability and places sustainable finance at the forefront of the EU&#8217;s recovery effort\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">As announced earlier this year, the Commission has also reviewed its plan for funding the recovery in 2021 and confirmed its intention to issue a total of around \u20ac80 billion of long-term bonds this year, to be topped up by tens of billions of euros of short-term EU-Bills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">The Commission will be offering the EU-Bills exclusively via auctions, with its auctioning program due to start on 15 September. The Commission will be organizing typically two auctions per month for EU-Bills, on the first and third Wednesday of the month. The auctioning program will also be used for bonds, in addition to syndications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">Under its issuance calendar released today, the Commission in general will be holding one auction and one syndication per month for its bonds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">Commissioner Johannes\u00a0<strong style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-weight: normal;\">Hahn<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0added<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-style: normal;\">\u201cThe confirmation of our original funding plan for 2021 is a sign of the excellent planning and preparatory work done so far.
