Walmar<\/a>t’s Great Value tea was certified sustainable through the Rainforest Alliance which evaluates farms based on three pillars of sustainability – social, environmental and economic – and provides training to farmers so they can continue growing their skillset.<\/p>\n

The social pillar advances the rights of people in the supply chain, especially in rural areas. The environmental pillar assesses and trains farmers around responsible land management methods. The economic pillar helps to bring farmers out of poverty by providing sustainable options for building better livelihoods.<\/p>\n

These pillars matter because of the relationship between sustainable sourcing and surety of supply. By supporting tea farmers, this can encourage them toward practices that will sustain their farms and allow them to teach future generations\u00a0\u2014<\/i>\u00a0creating a positive cycle that\u2019s not just better for the planet, but for people, too.<\/p>\n

Walmart customers might experience a change in buying Great Value Brand teas in that they can feel even better about their purchase. But what won\u2019t change is the company’s commitment to everyday low prices.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Walmart’s Great Value Brand black and green teas will remain affordable, high-quality drinks, with an added bonus: Each box a customer buys makes a measurable impact on the life of a smallholder farmer.<\/p>\n

This announcement is only part of Walmart’s greater strategy to build better livelihoods for farmers while operating a greener business. The company is working toward sourcing\u00a020 diverse key commodities<\/a><\/u>, from tea to\u00a0tuna<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0coffee<\/a><\/u>, more sustainably by 2025. Doing so is a collaborative effort, which requires Walmart’s teams to work together across private brands, merchandising, sustainability and many more\u00a0\u2014<\/i>\u00a0all in pursuit of a common goal.<\/p>\n
