{"id":68921,"date":"2021-08-04T22:00:38","date_gmt":"2021-08-04T20:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=68921"},"modified":"2021-08-04T22:00:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T20:00:38","slug":"bbva-led-one-of-the-worlds-first-sustainable-transactions-for-data-centers-by-backing-nabiax-the-leading-data-center-company-in-spain-and-latin-america-to-convert-about-e320","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/bbva-led-one-of-the-worlds-first-sustainable-transactions-for-data-centers-by-backing-nabiax-the-leading-data-center-company-in-spain-and-latin-america-to-convert-about-e320\/","title":{"rendered":"BBVA backs Nabiax to be one of world&#8217;s 1st data centers converting into sustainable financing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/bbva-pledges-e200-bn-for-funding-sustainability-projects-from-2018-to-2025\/\">BBVA<\/a> led one of the world&#8217;s first sustainable transactions for data centers by backing <a href=\"https:\/\/nabiax.com\/en\/about-nabiax\/\"><strong>Nabiax<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the leading data center company in Spain and Latin America \u2013 to convert about \u20ac320 million of its financing into a sustainable format.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This project finance became sustainable once its price mechanism was linked to three indicators of the\u00a0Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Two are environmental and related to greenhouse gases and water treatment, while the third is social and connected to gender equality.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The defined indicators include the percentage of renewable electricity, water consumption (m3 \/ MW), and a target for hiring more women in the workplace. If the company meets the levels established for these indicators, Nabiax will receive an improvement in their financing price. On the contrary, if it fails to achieve the set goals, it will be penalized.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/valoraconsultores.com\/es\/inicio\/\"><strong>Valora<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is the project\u2019s sustainability consultant that has issued the expert opinion in this case.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Nabiax was created in 2019 after the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telefonica.com\/en\/web\/press-office\/-\/telefonica-agrees-the-sale-of-11-data-centers-for-550-million-to-asterion-industrial-partners\">\u00a0<strong>infrastructure fund Asterion Industrial Partners bought 11 data centers in Spain, Latin America and the United States from Telef\u00f3nica.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Additionally, in May 2021, Telef\u00f3nica and Asterion agreed to the contribution of another four data centers in exchange for a 20 percent stake in Nabiax. In its first two years, Nabiax increased its IT power capacity by 50 percent, from 30 MW to 45 MW, combining organic and inorganic growth.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cNabiax has a strong commitment to sustainability and for this project we have chosen priority objectives for the company, such as a renewable supply and efficient consumption of water\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telefonica.com\/en\/web\/press-office\/-\/telefonica-infra-agrees-with-asterion-industrial-partners-the-acquisition-of-a-20-stake-in-nabiax-in-exchange-for-the-contribution-of-four-data-center\"><strong>for our data centers<\/strong><\/a>, as well as promoting gender equality within our professional team,\u201d said Nabiax CFO Iv\u00e1n Paja.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This transaction is unique thanks to its sustainability angle, and also global, given that seven countries from two continents have been involved in it.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">BBVA, a benchmark in sustainable financing<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">In 2018, as a sign of its responsibility in the fight against climate change, BBVA announced its Pledge 2025, with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbva.com\/en\/sustainability\/bbva-doubles-its-target-of-channeling-sustainable-financing-to-e200-billion\/\"><strong>target to mobilize \u20ac100 billion in green financing, sustainable infrastructure, social entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Three years later, and after having managed to reach \u20ac59 billion, the bank has now increased its goal to \u20ac200 billion. \u201cWe want to contribute to the global collective effort against climate change and promote inclusive growth, leaving no one behind.
