{"id":68281,"date":"2021-07-09T01:02:40","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T23:02:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=68281"},"modified":"2021-07-09T01:02:40","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T23:02:40","slug":"nbe-first-bank-to-join-ebrds-new-140m-programs-for-backing-youth-entrepreneurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/nbe-first-bank-to-join-ebrds-new-140m-programs-for-backing-youth-entrepreneurs\/","title":{"rendered":"NBE first bank to join EBRD\u2019s new $ 140m programs for backing youth entrepreneurs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/nbe-tops-2021-business-news-social-responsibility-index\/\">National Bank of Egypt (NBE) <\/a>is the first bank to join a $ 120 million Youth in Business program and a pilot $ 20 million Skills in Business credit facility that were launched by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The facilities will address key challenges that Egypt faces;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\">the economy<\/a>\u00a0suffers from high levels of youth unemployment and increasing emigration as well as structural barriers to accessing key resources for business growth.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Youth in Business program will offer young entrepreneurs access to critically needed financing and technical assistance to grow their small businesses. The financing provided to NBE is part of a wider $ 120 million Youth in Business financing package for Egypt, which the EBRD will also offer to other banks and microfinance institutions for on-lending to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises run by young entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The offer will be complemented by technical assistance to partner banks to strengthen their lending capacity. In addition, young business owners and managers will have access to advice to increase their productivity and scale up their enterprises.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The $ 20 million Skills in Business credit facility launched in partnership with NBE aims to tackle the skills shortages and high employee turnover that hinder growth. Eligible small businesses that receive financing will also benefit from advisory support to recruit, train and retain staff and attract talent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Skills in Business advisory component is also available via the EBRD\u2019s Direct Financing Framework and Risk-Sharing Facility across\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/the-EBRD-and-the-SEMED.html\">the southern and eastern Mediterranean<\/a>\u00a0(SEMED) region, supported by funding from the Small Business Impact Fund (Donors to the EBRD\u2019s Small Business Impact Fund include Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund and the United States of America),\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seco.admin.ch\/seco\/en\/home.html\">Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Heike Harmgart, EBRD Managing Director, SEMED, said: \u201cThe Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges young people face when entering the labor market or accessing the financing and the skilled employees they need for their businesses. Limited capital and gaps in know-how are among the biggest barriers standing in the way of young entrepreneurs\u2019 success.
