{"id":68009,"date":"2021-07-01T21:35:19","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T19:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=68009"},"modified":"2021-07-01T21:35:19","modified_gmt":"2021-07-01T19:35:19","slug":"egypts-banque-misr-among-five-winners-of-ebrds-deal-of-the-year-green-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/egypts-banque-misr-among-five-winners-of-ebrds-deal-of-the-year-green-trade\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt\u2019s Banque Misr among five winners of EBRD\u2019s Deal of the Year \u2013 Green Trade\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Egypt\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/banque-misr-head-wins-fakhr-al-arab-award\/\">Banque Misr<\/a> was named among the five winners of the Deal of the Year \u2013 Green Trade of the European Bank of Construction and Development (EBRD).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Banque Misr\u00a0was among the winners because of supporting circularity in the metal processing sector in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\">Egypt<\/a>, with an energy-saving impact equivalent to the annual generation of a 120 MW photovoltaic plant.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Uzbekistan\u2019s Uzpromstroybank\u00a0and\u00a0Erste Bank der oesterreichischen Sparkassen also won the title for jointly improving the energy efficiency of the retail sector in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/uzbekistan.html\">Uzbekistan<\/a>, resulting in energy savings equivalent to the energy needed to heat 150 Uzbek households each year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Georgia\u2019s TBC Bank\u00a0and\u00a0Raiffeisenlandesbank Ober\u00f6sterreich also won the title for jointly boosting energy supply in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/georgia.html\">Georgia<\/a>\u00a0by reducing reliance on fossil fuels through hydro power generation, with an impact equivalent to generating the electricity required to supply one-third of Batumi\u2019s households for a year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Morocco\u2019s Banka OTP Albania\u00a0and\u00a0Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale were also among the winners for jointly facilitating access to clean water in the residential and agriculture sectors in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/morocco.html\">Morocco<\/a>, resulting in the daily production of desalinated water equivalent to filling 100 Olympic-size swimming pools.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Also, Ukrgasbank\u00a0and\u00a0SEB\u00a0in Finland also won the title for jointly promoting responsible forest management by supporting trade in sustainably sourced paper products, with a CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emission-reductions impact equivalent to planting more than 700,000 trees.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">EBRD has recognized the most successful banks under its Green\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/work-with-us\/trade-facilitation-programme.html\">Trade Facilitation Program<\/a>\u00a0(Green TFP) with awards for their performance in 2020, a year that was overshadowed by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/what-we-do\/coronavirus\">coronavirus pandemic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Green TFP allows partner banks to use their existing trade finance facilities to finance exports, imports and local distribution of imported green technologies and materials, in line with the EBRD\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/what-we-do\/get.html\">Green Economy Transition (GET) approach<\/a>. The EBRD\u2019s strategic goal is to become a majority green bank by 2025.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The prize for the\u00a0Most Active Issuing Bank in 2020 \u2013 Green Trade went to Raiffeisen Bank\u00a0in Ukraine. The bank facilitated the highest number of transactions under the Green TFP as an issuing bank, with a total CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emission-reductions impact equivalent to taking 2,800 roundtrip flights from Kyiv to London.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The prize for the\u00a0Most Active Confirming Bank in 2020 \u2013 Green Trade\u00a0was awarded to\u00a0Commerzbank.\u00a0The bank successfully supported the highest number of transactions under the Green TFP as a confirming bank, with an annual CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emission-reductions impact equivalent to the electricity required to power 90,000 electric cars for over a year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">These two awards were presented jointly with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanker.com\/\">The Banker<\/a>, a\u00a0<em>Financial Times<\/em>\u00a0publication that covers the world\u2019s banking and financial sector.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Francis Malige, EBRD Managing Director, Financial Institutions, said: \u201cThe coronavirus pandemic has tested the global economy like no event for decades. As much as it has exposed weaknesses, it has also demonstrated the crucial role of trade to keep the world economy going. The EBRD responded swiftly and powerfully with a new record in our Trade Facilitation Programme.
