Environment Minister<\/a> Yasmine Fouad said the first waste-to-energy unit will be opened in Fayyoum next week and the unit will operate at a capacity of 2.5 tons daily.<\/p>\n

Fouad made the announcement on Monday in a speech delivered on behalf of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli at the opening session in the third Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy \u2013 which is organized by CSR Egypt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She added that the new mechanism for managing solid waste will take into consideration turning to green economy.<\/p>\n

Under the mechanism, 80 landfills will be established alongside 60 waste recycling factories.<\/p>\n

She also referred to implementing projects for turning waste into electric power.<\/p>\n

She added that the ministry laid down plans for waste management in 27 governorates.<\/p>\n

She added that the Environment Ministry collaborated with the Communications and IT Ministry in launching E-Tadweer campaign in tandem with the private sector.<\/p>\n

This has led to legalizing the conditions of six e-waste recycling factories.<\/p>\n

She also referred to cooperation with eight companies to work with the informal sector in plastic waste management.<\/p>\n

She highlighted the role played by her ministry in merging the environmental dimension in various development sectors.<\/p>\n

She reviewed cooperation with the Education Ministry by merging environmental issues into educational curricula, even on new e-educational platforms.<\/p>\n

Over the past three years, the Environment Ministry collaborated with various ministries in addition to engaging into mega projects, like the Benban solar plant, smart transportation projects in the New Administrative Capital and the initiative for converting cars to operate by natural gas instead of diesel oil.<\/p>\n

She said transition to green economy in Egypt started with rationalizing use of natural resources, noting that the cabinet endorsed environmental sustainability standards last year.<\/p>\n

The wise political leadership \u2013 which laid down the Egypt Vision 2030 \u2013 directed to take into consideration the environmental dimensions while implementing state plans.<\/p>\n

She also noted that the presidential initiative \u201cDecent Life\u201d was being implemented in collaboration among all the ministries concerned aimed to improve living conditions in most needy villages while taking into consideration natural resources.<\/p>\n

She also highlighted the key role of the civil society in transition to green economy.<\/p>\n
