China is the largest country in Asia, and houses largest population in the world. The country is famous for its rapid development, growing economic power, Belt and Road initiative as well as its manufacturing capacity.<\/p>\n
CSR is a fairly recent practice in China. About 10 years ago, Chinese companies shared a belief that their responsibility towards society is nothing but their economic performance. In fact, only\u00a022 CSR reports had been published between 1999 and 2005.<\/p>\n
This changed in 2006 when the concept of CSR was included in the corporate law of the country. This set in motion a group of industry leaders to issue their first CSR reports. These steps were taken to facilitate the smooth integration and brand-building of Chinese companies on the global market.\u00a0Between 2006 and 2009 there have been about 1600 CSR reports in China, a large boost compared to the meagre numbers back at the beginning of the century.<\/p>\n
China does not have a single umbrella law similar to India that defines and deals with CSR. The Chinese government places greater emphasis on safeguarding the legal rights and interests of citizens and has established a well-founded and complete legal system, in which, many laws and regulations, such as \u201cLabour Law of the People\u2019s Republic of China\u201d, \u201cTrade Union Law of the People\u2019s Republic of China\u201d, \u201cLaw of the People\u2019s Republic of China on the Protection of Rights and Interests of Women\u201d, \u201cProvisions on Special Protection for Juvenile Workers\u201d, \u201cProduction Safety Law of the People\u2019s Republic of China\u201d, \u201cCode of Occupational Disease Prevention of the People\u2019s Republic of China\u201d, \u201cCleaner Production Promotion Law of the People\u2019s Republic of China\u201d and \u201cRegulations on Enterprise Minimum Wage\u201d, all contain CSR elements and requirements. However, China is still in the initial stage of developing a standardized, systematic and widely participated CSR social movement.<\/p>\n
Alibaba group considers social responsibility as its core competency. It\u2019s social responsibility is conducted simultaneously with its business operations as it functions with the motto \u2013 \u201cCommercial practices with a public welfare mindset.\u201d<\/p>\n
Driven by this value, Alibaba uses Internet public welfare products, such as \u201cReunion System\u201d and \u201cModel Mother\u201d to help needy groups, such as children, women, the elderly, and the poor. The technologies of Reunion System can not only help missing children return home, but can also help prevent the elderly from getting lost. Finding the lost elderly is always a challenge facing families and the society. According to statistics, there are more than 500,000 cases of the elderly getting lost every year in China. Based on the successful experience of the Reunion System, Alibaba cooperated with CCTV Sunset Glow to promote a Reunion project. Elderly people aged over 60 or with special diseases that make them get lost easily can apply for \u201creal-time online custody permission\u201d free of charge by calling the CCTV Sunset Glow hotline or visiting the Internet Security Volunteer official website. After successful application, the Reunion project team will mail a free intelligent locator to the applicant. When an elderly person wears the locator, his or her family members can monitor his or her position and dynamic route in real time online. When the elderly person is out of the security zone set by the guardian, the system will automatically issue an alarm and accurately locate the elderly person\u2019s position in real time.<\/p>\n
\u201cModel Mother\u201d empowers troubled mothers Alibaba has been devoted to creating a tolerant and fair platform for disadvantaged groups to start businesses or find jobs. The e-commerce entrepreneurship project \u201cModel Mother\u201d, which was established to help troubled mothers, has been operational for 10 years and has accumulated a wealth of operational experience and data. Over the past 10 years, \u201cModel Mother\u201d has been continuously updated to help troubled mothers who rely on themselves. In March 2018, Alibaba held the Model Mother Entrepreneurship Competition to provide a stage for mothers struggling to start their own businesses. Huawei has built up a broad array of telemedicine solutions and mature applications, including an HD video conferencing system that forms the foundation of a telemedicine system.
