{"id":66577,"date":"2021-05-11T01:23:32","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T23:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=66577"},"modified":"2021-05-11T01:23:32","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T23:23:32","slug":"ebrd-invests-in-latvenergos-e50-m-green-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-invests-in-latvenergos-e50-m-green-bond\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD invests in Latvenergo\u2019s \u20ac50 m green bond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/6th-of-october-becomes-3rd-egyptian-city-to-join-ebrds-green-cities\/\"> European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> supported the \u20ac50 million green bond issuance by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/latvenergo.lv\/en\">Latvenergo AS<\/a>, Latvia\u2019s state-owned energy utility, by acting as an anchor investor.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">This was the first tranche under a \u20ac200 million green bond program which aims to finance an ambitious investment plan in projects that promote the transition to a sustainable, modern electricity network and to upgrade Latvia\u2019s hydropower plants.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The proceeds raised from the bond issuance will be used to support the integration of more renewable sources into Latvia\u2019s electricity network, especially small and medium-sized solar and wind projects as well as increasing the reliability of the country\u2019s energy supply.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The green bond is listed on the Nasdaq Riga exchange, an EU-regulated platform that is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sseinitiative.org\/\">Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative<\/a>, a platform aimed at enhancing corporate transparency on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The bond has received a \u201cdark green\u201d rating \u2013 the most stringent category \u2013 under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icmagroup.org\/sustainable-finance\/the-principles-guidelines-and-handbooks\/green-bond-principles-gbp\/\">Green Bond Principles<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicero.oslo.no\/en\">Center for International Climate and Environmental Research<\/a>, confirming that it corresponds to a long-term vision of a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD\u2019s participation in the company\u2019s green bond issuance contributed to its success. The issuance attracted strong interest from local Baltic and Nordic investors, as well as international financial institutions, with bids of more than \u20ac200 million reflecting investors\u2019 trust in Latvenergo\u2019s sustainable business.
