{"id":65227,"date":"2021-03-28T20:20:25","date_gmt":"2021-03-28T18:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=65227"},"modified":"2021-03-28T20:20:25","modified_gmt":"2021-03-28T18:20:25","slug":"fedex-allocates-2bn-initial-investments-to-have-zero-carbon-operations-by-2040","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/fedex-allocates-2bn-initial-investments-to-have-zero-carbon-operations-by-2040\/","title":{"rendered":"FedEx allocates $ 2bn initial investments to have zero-carbon operations by 2040"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/fedex-extends-11-m-medical-aid-to-back-lebanon\/\">FedEx<\/a> Corp, home of the world\u2019s largest cargo airline, allocated over $2 billion of initial investments in the fields of vehicle electrification, sustainable energy, and carbon sequestration within the framework of the company\u2019s commitment to achieve carbon\u2013neutral operations globally by 2040.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">This includes a pledge of $100 million to Yale University to help establish the\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture, accelerating research into methods of carbon sequestration at scale, with an initial focus on helping to offset greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to current airline emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The path toward sustainability\u00a0requires\u00a0new strategies for removing and storing Earth\u2019s excess carbon. The\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture will catalyze interdisciplinary research across the natural sciences and engineering\u00a0in an effort to\u00a0accelerate\u00a0this work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Center researchers will develop methods that build on natural carbon storage systems, including biological ecosystems and the geological carbon cycle, improving, where possible, how quickly carbon can be absorbed, how much can be contained,\u00a0and how long it can be stored. Through these efforts, Yale scientists aim to create a portfolio of carbon removal strategies that have impacts on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Building upon initial successes in the aviation\u00a0sector, the\u00a0center will broaden its scope to address additional global sources of emissions\u00a0\u2013 publishing\u00a0and sharing\u00a0its findings\u00a0so\u00a0that businesses, industries, and governments can benefit from work that will accelerate the adoption and implementation of natural carbon capture strategies around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cAddressing climate change is a complex challenge that demands urgent action, and natural carbon capture strategies will be one key part of that action,\u201d said Dr. Ingrid C. \u201cIndy\u201d Burke, the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean of the Yale School of the Environment. \u201cThrough the creation of the\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture, we aim to develop measurable carbon capture strategies to help offset carbon emissions globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cWe have\u00a0a responsibility to\u00a0take bold\u00a0action\u00a0in\u00a0addressing\u00a0climate\u00a0challenges,\u201d said Frederick W. Smith,\u00a0Chairman and CEO, FedEx Corp.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cThis goal\u00a0builds on our longstanding commitment to sustainability throughout our operations, while\u00a0at the same time\u00a0investing in long-term,\u00a0transformational solutions for FedEx and our entire industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">FedEx plans to attain carbon neutrality goal:<\/h4>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">By 2040,\u00a0the entire FedEx\u00a0parcel\u00a0pickup and delivery (PUD)\u00a0fleet will be\u00a0zero\u2013emission\u00a0electric vehicles. This will be accomplished through phased programs to replace existing vehicles. For example, by 2025,\u00a050% of FedEx Express global\u00a0PUD\u00a0vehicle purchases will be\u00a0electric, rising to 100%\u00a0of all purchases\u00a0by 2030.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u00a0FedEx will also work with customers to offer end-to-end sustainability for their supply chains through\u00a0carbon\u2013neutral\u00a0shipping offerings and sustainable packaging solutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">FedEx will also continue to invest in alternative fuels to reduce aircraft\u00a0and vehicle\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The company will also build on its successful FedEx Fuel Sense initiatives designed to reduce fuel consumption in\u00a0its\u00a0aircraft. Since 2012,\u00a0the\u00a0FedEx Fuel Sense and\u00a0Aircraft\u00a0Modernization programs have saved a combined 1.43 billion gallons of jet fuel and avoided over 13.5 million metric tons of\u00a0carbon dioxide (CO2)\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">FedEx will continue efforts to make its more than 5,000 facilities worldwide more sustainable through continued investments in\u00a0efficient\u00a0facilities,\u00a0renewable energy,\u00a0and other energy management programs.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The FedEx commitment builds on a history of\u00a0sustainable\u00a0practices.\u00a0Since 2009, the company\u2019s efforts have contributed to an approximately 40% reduction in CO2\u00a0emissions intensity across the enterprise\u00a0while package volume increased 99%\u00a0during that period.\u00a0Recently, FedEx was ranked first in its industry on JUST Capital\u2019s 2021 list of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Most Just Companies\u201d in the environment category and first in the travel, transport and\u00a0logistics sector of Newsweek\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Most Responsible Companies 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cWhile we\u2019ve made great strides in reducing our environmental impact, we have to do more.
