To tackle those emissions, Nestl\u00e9 will change with its suppliers the way food is produced. Farming practices will transition to regenerative agriculture to benefit nature and improve farmer incomes.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Marco Settembri, Nestl\u00e9\u00a0CEO\u00a0for Europe, Middle East and North Africa, said: &#8220;Our projects on healthy soils, low emission dairy farms, and sustainably sourced cocoa and coffee show promising outcomes. We are confident that those collaborations with farmers and suppliers can be extended to reach our net-zero climate goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Nestl\u00e9 already carries several initiatives to achieve its 2050 net-zero ambition.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Through programs like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthworm.org\/our-work\/projects\/living-soils-in-rosi%C3%A8res-en-santerre-france\">Living Soils<\/a>\u00a0in France and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/landscapeenterprisenetworks.com\/\">LENs<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0UK, Nestl\u00e9 empowers farmers to use no or fewer pesticides and apply techniques such as permanent soil cover, crop rotation, and reduced tillage. Such activities help keep more carbon and water locked up in the ground and create healthier soils.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">To develop dairy products that are good for people and good for the planet, Nestl\u00e9 will scale up its actions in the dairy supply chain. The company&#8217;s goal is net-zero emissions dairy farms. The Nestl\u00e9 projects\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nestle.ch\/de\/storys\/milch-die-das-klima-schont\">Climate-friendly Milk<\/a>\u00a0in Switzerland and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/485708662\/734270c23a\">First Milk<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0UK\u00a0have already achieved strong results in reducing carbon emissions on over 220 dairy farms. Actions include implementing a range of better farming initiatives, such as keeping cows longer, using more local feed, and working on cows&#8217; health.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">By 2025, 100% of the cocoa and coffee Nestl\u00e9 uses will be sustainably sourced. For this, Nestl\u00e9 is cooperating with farmers to avoid deforestation and rolling out an ambitious reforestation plan. In 2020, the company kicked off a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nestle.com\/media\/news\/nestle-partners-government-cote-ivoire-protect-cavally\">public-private partnership to conserve and restore the Cavally Forest<\/a>, one of the last remaining biodiversity hotspots in C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Katja Seidenschnur, Nestl\u00e9 Sustainability Director for Europe, Middle East and North Africa, said: &#8220;We work with farmers, shift our portfolio to more plant-based products and introduce carbon-neutral brands. We also rethink our manufacturing and distribution processes as well as make our packaging more circular. All those actions will help us progress on our journey down to zero. We leverage our global R&amp;D network to deliver on our climate commitments. Let&#8217;s work together with the whole value chain and governments to get this done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">By 2025, Nestl\u00e9 will have all 800 global Nestl\u00e9 sites using 100% renewable electricity.
