{"id":62691,"date":"2021-01-22T06:18:27","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T04:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=62691"},"modified":"2021-01-22T06:18:27","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T04:18:27","slug":"norway-to-share-covid-19-vaccine-with-poorer-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/norway-to-share-covid-19-vaccine-with-poorer-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Norway to share Covid-19 vaccine with poorer countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Norway has become one of the\u00a0first countries\u00a0in the world to explicitly commit to sharing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/telegraph.co%2Cuk\/coronavirus\">Covid-19<\/a>\u00a0vaccine doses with poorer countries\u00a0at the same time as vaccinating its own citizens.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Dag-Inge Ulstein, Minister of International Development, said Norway would begin donating doses of vaccines to lower-income nations as soon as jabs suitable for the countries\u00a0get\u00a0approval from the European Medicines Agency.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Norway&#8217;s commitment follows a move from India this week to send vaccines under &#8220;grant assistance&#8221; to a number of neighbouring countries. The first shipments arrived on Wednesday in Bhutan and the Maldives.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThe Pharmacy of the World will deliver to overcome the COVID challenge,\u201d Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Twitter. Other nearby countries, including Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Seychelles are also set to receive doses, described as gifts\u00a0by some of the governments, soon.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Norway will donate doses in collaboration with the European Union, through the World Health Organization co-led Covax scheme, a mechanism aimed at distributing vaccines equitably around the globe.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Mr Ulstein\u00a0told<em>\u00a0<\/em>the<em>\u00a0Telegraph<\/em>: &#8220;Norway will contribute to the fight against the global pandemic through donation of vaccines as soon as relevant candidates are approved.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;The distribution will be started gradually and in parallel to the current vaccination of the Norwegian population. We cannot wait until\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/global-health\/science-and-disease\/poorer-countries-risk-getting-stuck-covid-crisis-2023\/\">every citizen in rich countries is vaccinated before we start vaccinating people in the low-income countries.&#8221;\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Norway has already started vaccinating its citizens with the Pfizer\/BioNTech jab, but because of the requirement to store that vaccine at -70C it is understood that the government does not believe it is\u00a0suitable for lower-income settings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Norway has become one of the\u00a0first countries\u00a0in the world to explicitly commit to sharing\u00a0Covid-19\u00a0vaccine doses with poorer countries\u00a0at the same time as vaccinating its own citizens.
