{"id":61867,"date":"2020-12-15T22:27:11","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T20:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=61867"},"modified":"2020-12-15T22:28:56","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T20:28:56","slug":"afdb-to-extend-14-96-m-to-back-women-entrepreneurs-in-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/afdb-to-extend-14-96-m-to-back-women-entrepreneurs-in-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB to extend $14.96 m to back women entrepreneurs in Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Board of Directors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/african-development-bank-extends-egp-10-m-grant-to-support-egyptian-entrepreneurs\/\">the African Development Bank (AfDB)<\/a> has approved financing a $14.96 million project to help women in Sudan access finance and grow their businesses in line with <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\">the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Accelerating Women\u2019s Entrepreneurship and Access to Finance (AWEAF) project will address capacity, financing, and knowledge gaps for Sudan\u2019s women entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The financing comes in the form of a grant.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The project aims to help women to access quality business development services and financing as well as improving the quality of services provided by financial institutions serving women entrepreneurs in Sudan\u2019s Khartoum and Red Sea states.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThis approval shows that the African Development Bank stands with the government and people of Sudan to enable women to play more major roles in the development of their country,\u201d said African Development Bank Country Manager for Sudan, Raubil Durowoju.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Under the project, 570 micro, small and medium enterprises owned or led by women are expected to receive high quality technical and business development training and a finance pot of up to $11 million.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The new financing is expected to lead to an average 10% growth in business revenue for the women business owners and the creation of 1,200 full-time equivalent jobs, especially for young women.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of financial and microfinance institutions that serve women entrepreneurs by establishing \u2018internal one-stop shops\u201d for women-tailored operations and ensuring that the institutions provide gender-responsive financing geared to the needs of female entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The AWEAF project aligns with the Bank\u2019s Jobs for Youth in Africa Strategy and its gender strategy, while contributing to economic growth in the two target states in Sudan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">AWEAF also in line with political and socio-economic reforms being implemented by Sudan\u2019s Transitional Government to diversify the national economy and achieve inclusive growth.
