Egypt-PV project won the UK’s EI Award<\/a> as the best international low carbon<\/a> project, Minister of Trade and Industry Niveen Gamea said.<\/p>\n

The British Energy Institute (EI) announced during a ceremony that the Egyptian project filed by the Industrial Modernization Center was among the winners.<\/p>\n

Egypt-PV Project was implemented in tandem with the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) within the framework of Egypt’s efforts to realize sustainable development.<\/p>\n

From the beginning, Egypt-PV team was determined to tackle challenges and provide solutions in a cross-sectoral approach. That means developing an enhanced supply chain within the market considering different sectors such as industrial, educational, tourism, commercial, public and residential.<\/p>\n

Egypt-PV Project aims to remove the barriers to increase power generation by small, decentralized, grid-connected PV systems implemented by households and small- and medium-size enterprises.<\/p>\n

The project strategy builds on the planned Government initiatives to develop a market for small, decentralized renewable energy power generation by ensuring adequate returns on targeted private sector investments.<\/p>\n

The project catalyzes the development of decentralized, Grid-connected small-scale renewable energy (RE) power generation market in Egypt and the solar PV in particular. The target is to facilitate the installation of at least 4 MWp of new decentralized private PV capacity during the lifetime of the project.<\/p>\n

Gamea noted that 115 solar power stations were set up under the project in 13 governorates at total investments $ 7.2 milion. The project leads to cutting the annual greenhouse gas emissions by 7.9 kilotons.<\/p>\n

The minister noted that 29 states were vying for the EI Awards, including the US, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, the UAE and a number of European states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
