{"id":60718,"date":"2020-11-07T14:45:56","date_gmt":"2020-11-07T12:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=60718"},"modified":"2020-11-07T14:48:54","modified_gmt":"2020-11-07T12:48:54","slug":"arc-awards-10-1m-for-sydney-univ-research-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/arc-awards-10-1m-for-sydney-univ-research-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"ARC awards $10.1m for Sydney Univ. research projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/sydney-univ-gets-20-m-to-develop-cancer-immunotherapy-research\/\">Australian Research Council (ARC)<\/a> has through its Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme awarded a total of $10.1 million for research projects of 24 academics of Sydney University.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the projects are covering a broad range of areas, including the gig economy, mental health treatment and gendered violence in schools.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Duncan Ivison welcomed the announcement and congratulated recipients, pointing to a high success rate among Sydney applicants.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cIt\u2019s pleasing to see our success rate for these awards is 23%, the highest among the Go8 universities. This highlights not only the talent of our up-and-coming researchers, but also the support from our professional staff in helping academics reach their potential.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cMy congratulations to the recipients and I look forward to seeing the outcomes of this valuable research,\u201d said Professor Ivison. &#8220;I know there are also some very good projects that didn\u2019t get funded this round and we look forward to working with colleagues on those for upcoming ones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Among the recipients are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sydney.edu.au\/law\/about\/our-people\/academic-staff\/carolyn-mckay.html\">Dr Carolyn McKay<\/a>, from the University of Sydney Law School, who will examine the impact of digital technologies, such as audio visual links replacing physical presence in courtrooms, on vulnerable members of society, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sydney.edu.au\/business\/about\/our-people\/academic-staff\/milad-haghani.html\">Dr Milad Haghani<\/a>, from the University of Sydney Business School, who will develop materials to assist in rapidly and safely evacuating crowds in mass emergencies.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Sydney&#8217;s 2021 DECRA recipients include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sydney.edu.au\/science\/about\/our-people\/academic-staff\/behnam-akhavan.html\">Dr Behnam Akhavan<\/a>\u00a0of the Faculty of Science, <a
