Other shortlisted nominees in this category were ABN AMRO, Barclays and HSBC.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The GTR Leaders in Trade awards, organized by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gtreview.com\/news\/global\/gtr-leaders-in-trade-2020-the-winners\/\">Global Trade Review<\/a>, a leading trade finance publication, highlight excellence in the trade, commodity, supply chain and export finance, as well as fintech markets.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">EBRD First Vice President J\u00fcrgen Rigterink said: \u201cWe are very proud of this recognition for our pioneering Green TFP, which uses the well-established mechanisms of trade finance in support of supply of goods and technologies needed in addressing climate change. In the current coronavirus crisis it is critical to keep trade flowing and it is also a stark reminder not to ignore the continuous need to support transition to a green economy. We can expect sustainable trade to increase significantly in the post-crisis period as demand for sustainably sourced, low-carbon and climate resilient materials and technologies takes off.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">How Green TFP supported sustainability:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD\u2019s Green TFP allows partner banks under the EBRD\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/work-with-us\/trade-facilitation-programme.html\">Trade Facilitation Program (TFP)<\/a>\u00a0to use their existing TFP facilities for the financing of exports, imports and the local distribution of imported green technologies and materials, in line with the Bank\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/what-we-do\/get.html\">Green Economy Transition (GET)<\/a>\u00a0approach. The GET expertise provided by EBRD energy efficiency and climate change experts has been instrumental in the development of the Green TFP.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Since 2016, Green TFP has supported almost 900 foreign trade transactions involving trade in higher performance technologies and materials with a total volume of \u20ac675 million across 22 economies where the EBRD invests.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">These resulted in annual energy savings of 1,513,200 MWh, water savings of 1,681,399 m<sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0and emission reductions of 605,376 tons, CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0equivalent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Green TFP transactions to date include the import of wind power generation equipment from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/denmark.html\">Denmark\u00a0<\/a>to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/ukraine.html\">Ukraine<\/a>, the import of small-scale combined heat and power technologies from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/italy.html\">Italy<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/lebanon.html\">Lebanon<\/a>, the import of water-saving bottling lines from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/germany.html\">Germany<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/armenia.html\">Armenia<\/a>\u00a0and from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/who-we-are\/structure-and-management\/shareholders\/france.html\">France\u00a0<\/a>to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/tunisia.html\">Tunisia<\/a>, the import of residential lifts from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/greece.html\">Greece<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/kosovo.html\">Kosovo\u00a0<\/a>and the export of sustainably sourced wood products from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/country\/romania.html\">Romania<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/egypt.html\">Egypt.<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD\u2019s Trade Facilitation Program, launched in 1999, aims to promote foreign trade to, from and among the economies where the EBRD invests. Through the program, the EBRD provides guarantees to international confirming banks and short-term loans to selected local banks and factoring companies for on-lending to local exporters, importers and distributors.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD\u2019s TFP currently includes 121 local banks in 30 economies where the EBRD invests, with limits exceeding \u20ac5 billion in total and more than 800 confirming banks worldwide.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development won a global leadership award for sustainable trade finance.
