{"id":55073,"date":"2020-04-26T17:25:07","date_gmt":"2020-04-26T15:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=55073"},"modified":"2020-04-26T17:25:07","modified_gmt":"2020-04-26T15:25:07","slug":"gri-three-signs-prove-eus-e1-trillion-sustainable-investment-plan-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/gri-three-signs-prove-eus-e1-trillion-sustainable-investment-plan-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"GRI: Three signs prove EU\u2019s \u00a0\u20ac1 trillion sustainable investment plan underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) hailed the European Union\u2019s commitment to the EU Green deal \u00a0despite the coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Writing on Wednesday in EURACTIV (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/energy-environment\/opinion\/covid-crisis-reinforces-need-for-governments-to-go-green\/\"><strong>COVID crisis reinforces need for governments to go green<\/strong><\/a>), GRI chief executive Tim Mohin highlighted that there are three recent signs that the Green Deal, inclusive of a \u20ac1 trillion sustainable investment plan, remains on track.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The three signs include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatechangenews.com\/2020\/04\/09\/european-green-deal-must-central-resilient-recovery-covid-19\/\"><strong>letter signed by 13 EU environment ministers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that has called for the Green Deal to be the framework to boost recovery after the pandemic. In addition, a statement was issued by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/press\/press-releases\/2020\/03\/26\/joint-statement-of-the-members-of-the-european-council-26-march-2020\/\"><strong>European Council <\/strong><\/a>stressing\u00a0that a green transition is required to support sustainable growth following the crisis.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The European Commission has also accentuated that\u00a0 its members are working\u00a0 to achieve EU carbon neutrality.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Mohin added that \u00a0\u201cIt is reassuring that, even as we battle coronavirus, the European Commission has the foresight to press ahead with the Green Deal, which is being positioned as the framework to rebuild the economy after the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWith the international community coming together to address COVID-19, joint working between the public and private sectors has never been more important. And when the world emerges from this crisis, we need to continue this collaboration to advance sustainable and inclusive development,\u201d he underlined.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Europe\u2019s leaders are to be commended for committing to a green transition. Now, more than ever before, this is the kind of bold leadership the world needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">GRI has previously highlighted the significance of the European Commission\u2019s plans to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalreporting.org\/information\/news-and-press-center\/Pages\/Sustainability-reporting-at-center-of-EUs-Green-Deal.aspx\"><strong>strengthen the Non-Financial Reporting Directive<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the sustainable finance workstream of the Green Deal.
