{"id":53514,"date":"2020-03-18T21:57:45","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T19:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=53514"},"modified":"2020-03-18T21:57:45","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T19:57:45","slug":"siemens-creates-the-uks-first-ev-charging-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/siemens-creates-the-uks-first-ev-charging-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Siemens creates the UK\u2019s first EV charging street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Innovative manufacturing company\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.siemens.com\/\">Siemens<\/a>\u00a0has equipped a street in Westminster, London with the country\u2019s first street-based EV charging facilities.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Providing details of the project in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.siemens.co.uk\/news\/siemens-unveils-uks-first-converted-electric-avenue\">press release<\/a>, Siemens described how local demand on Sutherland Avenue had provided the impetus to install 24 EV charging points using specially converted lampposts.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The development, which is in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westminster.gov.uk\/electric-vehicles\">Westminster City Council<\/a>, will assist the borough\u2019s target of establishing 1,000 similar charging points before the end of 2020.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Now dubbed \u2018Electric Avenue\u2019, the half-mile stretch of road could become a model for the cityscape of the future, as EVs begin to take hold as the UK\u2019s preferred mode of transport.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Facilitating the future<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Siemens\u2019 commitment to the project stems from its own research, which shows that more than a third (36%) of British motorists have expressed a desire to purchase an EV.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It is also a reaction to 40% of those surveyed stating a lack of charging points is deterring them from doing so.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This feedback is seemingly validated by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1725828\/why-uk-drivers-arent-buying-more-electric-cars\/\">other studies<\/a>, which show a trend towards accepting EVs if they were as convenient (in practical and economic terms) as petrol\/diesel vehicles.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Finding a car with an acceptable range, having enough charging points, recharge time and price were the primary concerns of consumers (81%, 74%, 66% and 64% respectively). Despite this, younger drivers were, on average, more enthusiastic to buy an EV.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The opinions and attitudes of consumers appear to be shifting towards sustainability-focused goals and using their purchasing power to make a difference &#8211; Siemens\u2019 research showed that 83% of London motorists have become more concerned by their carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Leading the country<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Westminster City Council is a trailblazer in the national conversion to EVs, with more charging points than any other regional authority. The Greater London area in total is currently leading the country,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zap-map.com\/statistics\/\">with the South West and Scotland close behind<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The available data is showing that EV charging points grow incrementally each year, but this may need to accelerate to facilitate the equal conversion of the UK\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/299972\/average-age-of-cars-on-the-road-in-the-united-kingdom\/\">estimated<\/a>\u00a032.5mn fossil-fuel reliant cars.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Discussing the ongoing challenge to meet consumer and market demand, particularly in light of the government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-51366123\">decision to ban petrol and diesel cars by 2035<\/a>, Cedric Neike, CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said the ongoing difficulties would be worth it.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe know that half of London\u2019s air pollution is caused by road transport and Westminster is a particularly busy area.
