Fully-recyclable eco-friendly hangers will be cherished as an innovative solution for cutting plastic waste which kills millions of sea animals.<\/p>\n
Janger \u2013 a small, fully recyclable hanger \u2013 uses 60 times less plastic than a standard clip hanger, according to a research published by Sheffield University.<\/p>\n
By switching from one million standard clip hangers to the 100 per cent recyclable Janger, major retailers will save 54 tons of plastic<\/p>\n
Janger uses one seventh of the energy used to produce a traditional hanger and is three to four times less environmentally damaging<\/p>\n
Each year, UK fashion retailers sell around 70 million pairs of jeans, with many displayed on clip hangers \u2013 most of which are used just once before being sent to landfill.<\/p>\n
\u00a0The University of Sheffield\u2019s research suggests that by switching to Jangers, the sector could save 3,780 tons of plastic and slash the carbon footprint of their hangers.<\/p>\n
Professor Tony Ryan, one of the lead authors of the research from the University of Sheffield, said: \u201cIt might seem like a small change in the scheme of the fashion industry, but traditional hangers are an ecological nightmare. An enormous amount of energy goes into producing hangers and shipping them around the world \u2013 only for them to be dumped in landfill after a single use because they\u2019re so difficult to recycle.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOur research shows switching to a smaller, simpler, lighter alternative like a Janger could save energy and plastic, and help us shift towards the circular economy we need to protect the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guy Taylor, Chief Executive of The Janger Limited, said: \u201cOur company is 10 years old now and we have been evolving to ensure we do our bit for the environment. We have been working closely with the University of Sheffield to create what we believe is the most eco-friendly hanger in the marketplace and knocking hard on all major retailers\u2019 doors to push for change.<\/p>\n
