Attijariwafa Bank spearheaded “VeryNile” initiative which is meant to reduce plastic waste through disseminating awareness among people about the impact of plastic waste on the environment.<\/p>\n
Within this context, the bank distributed 4,500 cotton-made bags in the luxurious Cairo suburb of Zamalek as a first step for superseding plastic bags with cloth-made bags, the bank’s\u00a0marketing department head Sarah Ibrahim said during a conference marking the initiative’s launch.<\/p>\n
The event was attended by Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad.<\/p>\n
The initiative was launched within the framework of the bank\u2019s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.<\/p>\n
Within this context, the bank distributed 4,500 cotton-made bags in the luxurious Cairo suburb of Zamalek as a first step for superseding plastic bags with cloth-made bags.<\/p>\n
The initiative is meant to encourage shops in Zamalek to replace plastic bags with bags made of paper, cotton or cloth in line with the international trend to get rid of plastic waste which causes great harm to the environment.<\/p>\n
This is not the first time for Attijariwafa Bank to move to cut plastic waste. In November, the bank launched a campaign for cleaning the Nile River from plastic waste within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.<\/p>\n
The bank’s CSR strategy focuses on five main axes; namely empowering women, youth and handicapped, innovation, financial inclusion, green economy and CSR initiatives of the Central Bank of Egypt.<\/p>\n
The bank plays a pioneering role in the CSR score as it allocates a certain percentage of its revenues for its social activities.<\/p>\n
Attijariwafa Bank has been keen to spearhead CSR activities that would support state efforts as well as the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n
Within the context of combating poverty, Attijariwafa Bank teamed up with Misr El Khair charity foundation to launch a campaign aiming to support a poor village in Fayyoum, 100 kilometers southwest of Cairo.<\/p>\n
The campaign was meant to buttress state efforts to support the poor in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi who has been deeply interested in giving hand to low-income and marginalized strata as well as developing poor villages.<\/p>\n
The bank has been also keen to support state efforts to empower youth, women as well as the handicapped as the bank has developed offices in charge of supporting and honing skills of people of special needs in addition to launching an initiative in tandem with the American University in Cairo to educate handicapped persons.<\/p>\n
The bank has also held a job fair for handicapped people in collaboration with the American University in Cairo. About 25 people managed to get jobs at the bank.<\/p>\n
The bank has also backed technical education programs which are vital for entrepreneurship and helped women through spinning and weaving projects.<\/p>\n
The bank also launched the first business development center under the Nile Preneurs Initiative – which is sponsored by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to support small enterprises and startups in targeted economic sectors.<\/p>\n
The center is part of bank’s plan to positively contribute to Nile Preneurs Initiative via establishing centers for business development in its branches to offer non-financial services to improve the investment climate of the small and medium sized enterprises.<\/p>\n
