{"id":50542,"date":"2020-01-17T01:50:20","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T23:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=50542"},"modified":"2020-01-17T01:50:20","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T23:50:20","slug":"uk-firm-backs-africas-drive-to-reduce-co2-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/uk-firm-backs-africas-drive-to-reduce-co2-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"UK firm backs Africa\u2019s drive to reduce CO2 emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">UK engineering company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarke-energy.com\/uk\/\">Clarke Energy<\/a>\u00a0is helping African businesses reduce carbon emissions thanks to innovative hybrid engines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">During a visit to Merseyside on 15 January, International Development Minister Andrew Murrison opened a new engine repair workshop at the company, which will make power plants across Africa more efficient and support Africa\u2019s drive for clean energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Opening the workshop, Minister Murrison met the Overhaul and Repair Center Manager, Dave Nicholls, to see first-hand how high efficiency gas engines are being repaired in Knowsley in Merseyside and sent back to African nations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Similar units being deployed across Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Cameroon improve the reliability of power to businesses and communities, helping to keep the lights on and power flowing in countries with unstable energy systems.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"direction: ltr;\"><strong>Solar Lab:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Dr Murrison also announced a new\u00a0testing lab for solar products funded by the Department for International Development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The lab works on ensuring that solar panels and appliances meet global standards and households have access to good quality, reliable clean energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Following his visit, Minister Murrison said \u201cClarke Energy is just one great example of how UK businesses &#8211; including those from Liverpool &#8211; are already leading the way in investing in Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cClarke Energy\u2019s investment in Africa shows how UK expertise, technology and innovation are improving access to cleaner forms of energy, which can be replicated by businesses across the UK and Africa,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"direction: ltr;\"><strong>Investment in Africa:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The UK-Africa Investment Summit will forge closer trading partnerships to deliver more investment, jobs and growth benefitting people and businesses across Africa and the UK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Touring the engineering company, Minister Murrison learned more about the business\u2019s ambition to change the future of Africa\u2019s energy supplies and the use of green energy across the continent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">He heard how Clarke Energy\u2019s new power generation projects in Kano, Northern Nigeria will provide energy to businesses, reduce emissions and benefit whole communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Alex Marshall, Director for Marketing and Compliance at Clarke Energy said: \u201cThe knowledge the UK Government has both locally in the North West of England and across Africa is outstanding and helped us to navigate what can be a tough market with political considerations, language and cultural differences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The visit comes ahead of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/uk-africa-investment-summit-2020\">UK-Africa Investment Summit<\/a>, held in London on 20 January 2020, which will bring together UK and African leaders, businesses, and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">By 2050, more than 2 billion people will live in Africa and 1 in 4 global consumers will be African.
