{"id":50052,"date":"2020-01-08T20:51:10","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T18:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=50052"},"modified":"2020-01-08T20:51:10","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T18:51:10","slug":"ebrd-extends-e2-m-loan-to-boost-tunisian-smes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-extends-e2-m-loan-to-boost-tunisian-smes\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD extends \u20ac2 m loan to boost Tunisian SMEs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/home\">European Bank for Reconstruction and Development<\/a> (EBRD) signed a \u00a0\u20ac2 million loan deal with Advans Tunisie (equivalent to 6.5 million Tunisian dinars) in order to give momentum to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tunisia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Under the loan deal, the bank will offer Technical assistance to Advans Tunisie to help strengthen credit and operational risk management.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The EBRD is helping to increase the availability of funds for small firms in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/where-we-are\/tunisia\/overview.html\">Tunisia<\/a>\u00a0through a local currency loan equivalent to \u20ac2 million to Advans Tunisie, an international microfinance institution serving more than one million customers worldwide and 16,000 in Tunisia by the end of 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Poor access to finance and liquidity constrain the growth of many private businesses in Tunisia. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the core of the economy, accounting for more than 80,000 companies and 40 percent of the country\u2019s GDP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Small firms employ more than half of the population while Tunisian micro-enterprises, which accounts to more than 1 million, contribute to the creation of about one million jobs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The EBRD funds will help Advans Tunisie to increase its finance for small local enterprises, a segment that remains largely underserved. With a network of 15 branches across the country, Advans Tunisia offers loans to companies in urban and rural areas and focuses on providing advice and support to its clients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Advans Tunisie will receive technical support to strengthen its institutional capacity in the areas of credit and operational risk management.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Since the start of its operations in Tunisia in 2012, the EBRD has invested \u20ac934 million across 46 projects and provided technical assistance to nearly 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, two-thirds of which are in the regions of the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The bank\u2019s investments aim to make Tunisia more competitive by opening markets and strengthening governance.
