Egypt seeks to recycle plastic placards’ waste to be reproduced as high-quality school bags. The first stage of the project aims at producing about 10,000 recycled school bags annually.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The recycled bags will be distributed among students of families included in\u00a0 Takaful and Karama charity program.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

The Social Solidarity Ministry signed a cooperation protocol with a private company and the Egyptian Clothing Bank to implement this project within the framework of a charity initiative.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said the private company will be in charge of securing row materials and handing them over to the Clothing Bank which\u00a0will recycle the plastic materials into school bags.<\/p>\n

The bags will be distributed in most needy villages in various Egyptian governorate, the statement said, adding that the project will reduce costs of bags’ production and secure the largest possible number of school bags for students of poor families.<\/div>\n

The statement expounded that the two-year protocol falls within the framework of Egypt’s efforts to adopt modern international trends aiming to find innovative solutions to environmental problems, especially via resorting to recycling.<\/div>\n

The whole world has been stepping up efforts to reduce plastic waste which kills up to 1 million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals, marine turtles and countless fish each year. Plastic remains in the ecosystem for years, harming thousands of sea creatures every day.<\/p>\n

A staggering 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the world\u2019s oceans every year, an amount\u00a0equal to dumping a garbage truck of plastic every minute. As much as 80 percent of all litter in the oceans is made of plastic. As many as 51 trillion microplastic particles \u2014 500 times more than the stars in the galaxy \u2014 litter the oceans and seas, seriously threatening marine wildlife.<\/p>\n

According to some estimates, at the rate people are dumping items such as plastic bottles, bags and cups after a single use, by 2050 oceans will carry more plastic mass than fish, and an estimated 99 percent of seabirds will have ingested plastic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
