{"id":47196,"date":"2019-11-27T14:56:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-27T12:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=47196"},"modified":"2019-11-27T14:56:00","modified_gmt":"2019-11-27T12:56:00","slug":"ebrd-extends-e182-9-m-loan-to-egypt-to-boost-renewable-energy-reduce-co2-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-extends-e182-9-m-loan-to-egypt-to-boost-renewable-energy-reduce-co2-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD extends \u20ac182.9 m loan to Egypt to boost renewable energy, reduce CO2 emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting the development of a more resilient and robust electricity grid across \u064fEgypt with a \u20ac182.9 million loan to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to strengthen the transmission network in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The EBRD funds will facilitate the integration of 1.3 GW of new renewable energy into the Egyptian electricity system by connecting new renewable energy plants, with the help of new or refurbished high-voltage substations. In addition, the investment will help in reducing electricity losses, thus saving 77,000 tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions per year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Demand for electricity in Egypt is expected to grow significantly over the next 10 years due to economic growth. The project will address Egypt\u2019s key challenge in reaching its strategic objective in the energy sector by expanding the country\u2019s electricity transmission network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The EBRD will also assist EETC and the electricity regulator in designing and structuring a regulatory framework for private-to-private projects, developing a new channel for the growth of the private renewable sector, which will further improve the sector\u2019s competitiveness. This is linked to the electricity law that was passed in 2015, which sets out a roadmap for the liberalization and reform of the power sector, driven by the government\u2019s aim to generate 20 percent of Egypt\u2019s energy from renewable sources by 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">This project is also supported by the EBRD\u2019s Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) Multi-Donor Account (Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Taipei China and the United Kingdom) and is expected to be supported by the European Union through a \u20ac20 million grant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting the development of a more resilient and robust electricity grid across \u064fEgypt with a \u20ac182.9 million loan to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to strengthen the transmission network in the country.
