Other companies start massive social cause campaigns to give attention to specific issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">While large CSR initiatives are impressive, there are smaller efforts that all businesses can make to practice social responsibility within their industries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">In this article, I\u2019ll demonstrate\u00a0how social media marketers can practice social\u00a0<span id=\"urn:enhancement-e5e42c47-e75f-6abb-03b9-844ce5d451cf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\">responsibility toward their audience and the businesses or clients they represent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">You can use the information as a guideline for authentic, responsible social media marketing.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Commit to thorough content research<\/h2>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">When creating content for social media such as blog posts and articles, thorough research makes a difference. For example, when quoting statistics in your articles,\u00a0trace the data back to its original source.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">In many cases, you\u2019ll discover that social media statistics from 2012 to 2015 continue to circulate in many of today\u2019s articles. In 2012, though, social media was an entirely different environment compared to today\u2019s fast-paced, influencer-based social platforms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">In most cases, social media statistics that are over a couple years old aren\u2019t applicable to today\u2019s marketing strategies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Take steps to ensure that the content you share on social media is well-researched so your information is valuable and not misleading. You have a responsibility to your audience not to add to the onslaught of disinformation they face online.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Read beyond the headlines<\/h2>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Curating content on social media is an excellent way to build relationships with other brands while keeping your audience informed or entertained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Reading and sharing content based on headlines alone, though, can cause damage to your brand and harm the trust you\u2019ve built with followers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Many of today\u2019s publications sensationalize headlines or intentionally mislead readers to earn a greater number of clicks for their websites. Before you share an article, read the content to confirm that its headlines match the story. Additionally, consider avoiding headlines meant to incite anger or fear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Reading beyond the headlines \u2014 before your share someone else\u2019s content \u2014\u00a0 is essential to sharing valuable, responsible content with your followers.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Institute a zero tolerance policy for fake news<\/h2>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Committing to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/themanifest.com\/digital-marketing\/state-fake-news-social-media-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a zero-tolerance policy for fake news<\/a>\u00a0helps build trust with your readers and has a positive effect on the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Over half of people say that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/657037\/fake-news-confusion-level\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">fake news causes confusion<\/a>\u00a0about current issues and events, according to a recent report by Statista.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: left;\">Sharing misleading or fake news can harm your brand\u2019s reputation and your readers\u2019 trust.
