Together with UNICEF, we&#8217;re taking action with the Cryptofund to improve access to basic needs, rights, and resources,\u201d said Aya Miyaguchi, Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cWe aim to support the research and development of the Ethereum platform, and to grow the community of those that benefit from a technology that will better countless lives and industries in the years to come. We&#8217;d like to thank UNICEF and the UNICEF family of national committees for their leadership as we create real progress together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The Ethereum Foundation will make its initial donation through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.fr\/\">French National Committee<\/a>\u00a0for UNICEF.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">UNICEF national committees of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicefusa.org\/\">USA<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.au\/\">Australia<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.nz\/appeal\/the-greatest-need?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8svsBRDqARIsAHKVyqGaNRR5MW0xxtjknfis6we-9KZHsNUWPRACGpVWhjhNnJHyl_t6UUEaAqZuEALw_wcB\">New Zealand<\/a>\u00a0also accept cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The launch of the UNICEF Cryptocurrency Fund is part of UNICEF\u2019s ongoing work with blockchain technology. UNICEF co-leads the UN Innovation Network with the World Food Program (WFP). The network is responsible for researching the potential and pitfalls of blockchain and other emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">In a first for United Nations organizations, UNICEF will use cryptocurrencies to fund open source technology benefiting children and young people around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Under the structure of the UNICEF Cryptocurrency Fund, contributions will be held in their cryptocurrency of contribution, and granted out in the same cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">\u201cThis is a new and exciting venture for UNICEF,\u201d said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director. \u201cIf digital economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of coming generations, it is important that we explore the opportunities they offer.
