{"id":42114,"date":"2019-09-08T17:32:19","date_gmt":"2019-09-08T15:32:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/?p=42114"},"modified":"2019-09-08T17:32:19","modified_gmt":"2019-09-08T15:32:19","slug":"un-road-safety-fund-to-spend-4-m-on-projects-reducing-global-road-traffic-fatalities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/un-road-safety-fund-to-spend-4-m-on-projects-reducing-global-road-traffic-fatalities\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Road Safety Fund to spend $ 4 m on projects reducing global road traffic fatalities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m-8605584598385151501\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The United Nations Road Safety Fund will disburse $ 4 million to finance projects aimed at contributing to reduce global road traffic fatalities under its first formal call for project proposals serving this end.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The call is expected to officially open in early October 2019, when details on funding parameters and application process will be published on the Fund\u2019s web page.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\">The fund gives priority to individual country and multi-country projects having immediate and tangible impact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Project proposals shall be submitted through one of the ten Fund participating UN organizations, and will be assessed in line with the Fund&#8217;s\u00a0Global Framework Plan of Action for Road Safety and Funding Criteria and Priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\">The Global Framework Plan guides the Fund\u2019s support to low- and middle-income countries in addressing key gaps in their National Road Safety Systems. It does so by focusing on applying the safe system approach in road safety management; safe users; safe vehicles; safe roads; and effective post-crash response, and addressing them as the essential blocks for developing an integrated and effective national road safety system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">In addition to deciding on the formal call for project proposals, the Advisory Board invited UNESCO to become a Fund participating UN organization in view of its importance in promoting the safe system principles of the Global Framework Plan through education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Furthermore, the Advisory Board reviewed progress in the implementation of the five pilot projects approved by the Fund\u2019s Steering Committee in November 2018.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-236888647016078496gmail-align-justify\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Worth nearly $ 1 million and implemented in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Philippines, Senegal and South Africa, the pilot projects focus on improving the collection of road traffic fatality data, strengthening speed management, enhancing legal frameworks for road safety, scaling up safe street designs, and developing capacity in child-responsive urban planning and sustainable urban transportation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"conversation-footer\" class=\"spacer\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Road Safety Fund will disburse $ 4 million to finance projects aimed at contributing to reduce global road traffic fatalities under its first formal call for project proposals serving this end.
