{"id":41007,"date":"2019-08-08T11:49:13","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T09:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/?p=41007"},"modified":"2019-08-08T11:49:13","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T09:49:13","slug":"danones-plant-to-be-1st-carbon-free-plant-in-new-zealand-by-2021-at-e25-m-investments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/danones-plant-to-be-1st-carbon-free-plant-in-new-zealand-by-2021-at-e25-m-investments\/","title":{"rendered":"Danone&#8217;s plant to be  1st carbon-free plant in New Zealand by 2021 at \u20ac25 m investments"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"direction: ltr; text-align: center;\">Danone, a leading global food company, Danone, said it will invest about \u20ac25 millions for its Nutricia spray drying plant to be the first carbon-free facility in New Zealand by 2021.<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">This significant, industry-leading milestone will be driven primarily by the installation of a \u20ac17.5 million state-of-the-art biomass boiler that will reduce the plant\u2019s CO2 emissions by 20,000 tons per year.<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">Danone\u2019s Nutricia spray drying plant &#8211; which is located at Balclutha, in the Otago region of the South Island &#8211; processes raw milk sourced from eighteen local farms into powder that is used as the base for production of leading Infant Milk Formula (IMF) brands including Aptamil and Karicare. Boilers play a central role in spray drying \u2013 the process of converting milk into a dry powder through the application of heat \u2013 with around 85% of the entire plant\u2019s energy consumption coming from steam production.<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">Unlike gas or the more common coal-powered boilers, Danone\u2019s biomass boiler will be powered by sustainable wood fuels, which will be sourced locally, therefore delivering a positive economic impact.<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">According to Cyril Marniquet, Danone\u2019s New Zealand Operations Director, \u201cThis significant investment, in what we expect to be New Zealand\u2019s first carbon neutral plant of its kind, underscores Danone\u2019s global \u2018One Planet. One Health\u2019 vision and the belief that the health of people and planet are interconnected. We share the New Zealand Government\u2019s ambitions in delivering a low-emissions, climate resilient future. At Danone, we\u2019ve set ourselves an objective of becoming a carbon neutral company across our entire scope \u2013 from farm to family \u2013 by 2050. It is through key investments like this one that we take a step forward towards reaching this ambition.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">To bring its \u2018One Planet. One Health\u2019 vision to life, Danone has defined its 2030 Goals, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including preserving and renewing the planet\u2019s resources.<\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"direction: ltr;\">As part of its global journey towards carbon neutrality by 2050, Danone has also set intermediate targets \u2013 officially approved by the SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative) \u2013 in line with the global measures necessary to meet the Paris Agreement objective of keeping global warming below 2\u00b0 C. These targets include a 50% reduction in carbon emissions intensity across the company\u2019s full scope by 2030.
