The Egyptian Planning minister’s deputy Ahmed Kamali said the state invested about EGP 1.3 billion in the most needy villages in five Egyptian governorates in 2018-2019.<\/div>\n

In a statement on Tuesday, he said 2.5 million people in 158 villages benefited from the investments, noting that building the infrastructure of these villages is a vital step to lure investments.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said the 2017-2018 statistics showed that the Upper Egypt governorate of Assiut is the poorest governorate in Egypt, while Sohag comes in the second position with regard to poverty rates, stressing that poverty rates are receding.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said the state has a plan for developing the most needy villages, noting that upgrading education would contribute to curbing poverty as the largest poor strata are illiterate.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He added that the state is keen on launching programs to spread awareness among people about the importance of family planning in order to curb overpopulation which is a major challenge to the development drive.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Bloating population has a direct impact on growth rates and leads to increasing poverty instead of eradicating it, he cautioned.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Egypt is striving to develop the most vulnerable villages in the country and build its infrastructure to encourage investments and boost its economy.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In a recent report, the Planning Ministry\u00a0 said about EGP 103 billion poured into “Decent Life” Initiative, which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in March to secure a better life for the poor.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Upper Egypt governorates have the lion’s share of the initiative’s investments, according the report.\u00a0 The initiative also focused on promoting the educational sector.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
