The pilot project injects captured <a href=\"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/cma-cgm-engie-to-produce-7000-tons-of-biomethane-avoid-23000-tons-of-co%e2%82%82\/\">CO2<\/a> into naturally reactive ultramafic rock formations, where it mineralizes into stable carbonate rock.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Expanding carbon storage:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Fujairah project is already storing captured CO2 underground, demonstrating the potential to deploy carbon mineralization close to industrial production sites.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;Holcim\u2019s investment in 44.01 builds on our existing project in the UAE, where together we are already storing captured carbon in rock formations near our Fujairah plant,&#8221; said Ram Muthu, Head of Operational Excellence at Holcim.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">He said the technology could enable carbon storage near production sites where geological conditions permit, supporting Holcim&#8217;s decarbonization goals under its NextGen Growth 2030 strategy. It could also help the company manage captured carbon at inland facilities where access to offshore storage is limited.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Growing decarbonization portfolio:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The investment adds to Holcim&#8217;s portfolio of digital and decarbonization technologies through its open innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Other investors in 44.01 include JERA, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Equinor Ventures, Air Liquide Venture Capital and Siemens Financial Services.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Holcim has made 22 investments through Holcim MAQER Ventures, its corporate venture capital and open innovation unit, as it seeks to scale technologies for the built environment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holcim has invested in 44.01, a developer of carbon mineralization technology that permanently stores captured carbon dioxide (CO2) underground by converting it into solid rock, supporting the company&#8217;s scale-up and international expansion.
