The National Bank of Egypt (NBE)<\/a> and Arab African International Bank (AAIB)<\/a> have each pledged EGP 10 million to support the presidential \u201cGreening Cairo\u201d initiative, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber announced.<\/p>\n

The contributions follow a call by Cairo Governorate on civil society institutions to support tree planting and expand green spaces across the capital.<\/p>\n

Saber praised the banks\u2019 contributions, describing them as a model of partnership between executive authorities and the banking sector in supporting environmental initiatives and improving quality of life.<\/p>\n

Scientifically designed afforestation plan:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The initiative will be implemented through a scientifically designed plan involving specialists to select tree species suited to Egypt\u2019s climate, with priority given to shade-providing varieties that require limited water.<\/p>\n

The plan will focus on major roads, streets and squares, while encouraging citizens, shop owners and property holders to participate in planting and maintaining trees.<\/p>\n

Expanding green spaces:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cairo Governorate will survey unused plots for potential conversion into parks and green areas, prioritizing densely populated neighborhoods with limited green spaces.<\/p>\n

Saber said modern irrigation systems and treated water would be used to ensure the sustainable maintenance of trees and parks, stressing that protecting green spaces is a shared responsibility between citizens and executive authorities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
