EY has launched a Climate Resilience Center of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore to help businesses and other organizations across Southeast Asia address climate risks, strengthen operational resilience and translate sustainability goals into long-term business value.

The center was inaugurated by Grace Fu, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations. It brings together technical expertise, multidisciplinary capabilities and regional partnerships to develop practical solutions to climate challenges.

The CoE is co-led by Sunil Yadav and Amandeep Bedi, partners in Climate Change and Sustainability Services at Ernst & Young LLP. The team currently comprises more than 20 professionals across Southeast Asia, with plans to expand, and forms part of EY’s regional Climate Change and Sustainability Services practice, which has more than 200 professionals.

Focus on climate risks across Southeast Asia:

The center builds on EY’s decade-long work on climate change and sustainability across Southeast Asia, a region particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels and intensifying natural hazards, according to UNESCO.

Singapore’s efforts to strengthen climate preparedness, including developing its first National Adaptation Plan and designating 2026 as the Year of Climate Adaptation, further underpin the center’s establishment.

The launch also builds on EY’s Center for Sustainable Supply Chains, established in 2023, which has supported regional efforts to reduce supply-chain carbon emissions and advance decarbonization. Its initiatives have included the Queen Bee Enabled Sustainability Transition (QUEST) program, which supports small and medium-sized enterprise suppliers in their sustainability efforts, as well as sustainability playbooks developed with business and trade associations for sectors such as manufacturing.

Liew Nam Soon, EY Asia East Deputy Regional Managing Partner, ASEAN Managing Partner, and Singapore and Brunei Managing Partner at Ernst & Young LLP, said climate resilience and sustainability have become central to how businesses manage risk, strengthen competitiveness and create long-term value.

He added that the new center would combine EY’s expertise with collaboration across its regional network and ecosystem partners to help organizations assess climate risks and strengthen their resilience.

3 Pillars of climate resilience:

The CoE will focus on three areas: energy resilience, climate adaptation, and nature and biodiversity.

Its energy resilience work will support low-carbon, efficient and diversified energy systems that advance decarbonization while strengthening energy security. Climate adaptation initiatives will seek to reduce exposure to physical climate risks affecting infrastructure, communities, ecosystems and economies.

The center will also focus on protecting biodiversity and natural capital, which underpin essential ecosystem services and contribute to long-term economic, environmental and social stability.

Using an ecosystem-based approach, the CoE will bring together governments, businesses, investors, academia, technology providers and development organizations to address shared challenges. Support will be tailored to organizations’ needs, ranging from enterprise-wide transition and investment programs for larger companies to sector initiatives, shared tools, capacity-building and value-chain engagement for smaller businesses.

Its multidisciplinary team includes engineers and climate and sustainability specialists with expertise in biodiversity, public policy, sustainable finance, gender and social inclusion. The center will combine strategic advisory services with implementation support to help organizations develop actionable and investment-ready solutions.

Turning climate action into business value:

Amandeep Bedi, Co-Leader of the EY Climate Resilience CoE, said organizations operating across Southeast Asia often face gaps in emissions data beyond their home markets, particularly for Scope 3 emissions generated across supply chains and other parts of their value chains.

The center aims to help boards and senior executives build a more comprehensive view of their carbon footprints across the region and assess the financial implications of climate risks and decarbonization.

These implications include higher insurance premiums, supply-chain and operational disruptions, business continuity risks and resource shortages, Bedi said.

He added that organizations need to prioritize emissions-reduction measures with strong commercial cases, allocate capital accordingly and adapt their plans to Southeast Asia’s energy and regulatory conditions to sustain progress.

Sunil Yadav, Co-Leader of the CoE, said the center’s approach would combine policy- and market-led initiatives with collaboration among governments, businesses, investors and nonprofit organizations.

Key enablers include carbon markets, just transition initiatives and sustainable financing, with the aim of helping organizations move from strategy to actionable investment plans with measurable outcomes and long-term business, economic and societal benefits.
