{"id":120999,"date":"2026-10-04T18:02:45","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T15:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/?p=120999"},"modified":"2026-10-04T18:02:45","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T15:02:45","slug":"ebrd-co-finances-e561-mln-europes-largest-solar-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-co-finances-e561-mln-europes-largest-solar-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD co-finances \u20ac561 mln Europe\u2019s largest solar plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/ebrd-invests-8-mln-in-fund-targeting-egypt-4-african-markets-to-drive-innovation-jobs\/\"> European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> is co-financing \u20ac561 million in loan facilities for Romania\u2019s Dama Solar project, which will have a peak capacity of 1.3 GW and is expected to generate around 1,800 GWh of renewable electricity annually, making it Europe\u2019s largest solar park once completed.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Renewable energy:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD is providing a \u20ac21.1 million senior secured loan as part of the financing package, alongside a consortium of more than 10 commercial lenders, the International Finance Corporation, Black Sea Trade and Development Bank and European Investment Bank.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The project is being developed by renewable energy company Rezolv Energy, backed by Actis and Mubadala, and is expected to become the largest renewable energy installation financed by the EBRD to date.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Dama Solar will contribute to Romania\u2019s renewable energy expansion and energy security. The project benefits from Romania\u2019s Contract for Difference scheme, which supports investment in renewable energy capacity.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Biodiversity gains:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The project will deliver biodiversity net gains through habitat restoration, biodiversity set-aside areas and conservation measures for priority species.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cDama Solar marks a big step forward in Romania\u2019s transition to a secure, competitive and low-carbon energy system,\u201d said Georgios Gkiaouris, the EBRD\u2019s Head of Energy Europe.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The project also represents the EBRD\u2019s first nature-positive renewable energy financing, according to Gkiaouris, who said it would deliver positive outcomes for nature, local communities and workforce development.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Skills, inclusion:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD is cooperating with Rezolv Energy on a skills development program to support the project\u2019s workforce requirements and contribute to Romania\u2019s wider energy transition.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Co-funded through <a href=\"https:\/\/investeu.europa.eu\/index_en\">InvestEU<\/a> advisory support and the client\u2019s own resources, the program aims to provide training opportunities for at least 300 local people.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">It also includes measures to increase women\u2019s participation in the traditionally male-dominated energy sector, including dedicated awareness and training measures addressing gender-based violence and harassment.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">EBRD in Romania:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Dama Solar is sponsored by Rezolv Energy, an existing EBRD client that the Bank has supported since 2024 through renewable energy investments in Romania, including the expansion of the Vifor Wind project in Buz\u0103u County to 461 MW.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The EBRD has invested more than \u20ac12.9 billion across 607 projects in Romania since beginning operations in the country in 1991, with the majority of investment directed to the private sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is co-financing \u20ac561 million in loan facilities for Romania\u2019s Dama Solar project, which will have a peak capacity of 1.3 GW and is expected to generate around 1,800 GWh of renewable electricity annually, making it Europe\u2019s largest solar park once completed.
