The government is reviewing its zero-emission vehicle mandate to support jobs, investment and the competitiveness of the UK automotive sector.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">EV demand keeps rising:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">More than 2 million electric vehicles are now registered on UK roads, as demand for cleaner transport continues to grow.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The government\u2019s Electric Car Grant, offering up to \u00a33,750 off a new EV, has helped more than 160,000 drivers make the switch since its launch last July.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The ZEV mandate is also increasing EV availability, with industry data showing that new models are becoming increasingly competitive in price with petrol and diesel vehicles.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a37.5bn behind EV transition:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The government is investing \u00a37.5 billion to grow the EV market, boost manufacturing and expand charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The funding includes \u00a34 billion for DRIVE35 projects and \u00a33.5 billion for grants covering vans, trucks and cars, including the Electric Car Grant and EV charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The government is also investing \u00a3600 million to expand the charging network, building on 120,000 public charge points and more than 1 million chargers in homes and workplaces.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Government reviews EV targets:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The consultation seeks views from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, charge point operators, dealers, consumers and communities on the pathway to ending sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and ensuring all new cars and vans are zero-emission by 2035.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Manufacturers are currently on track to meet their 2025 targets, but the government said global economic challenges, supply chain disruption and uncertainty over tariffs and trade have changed market conditions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The review will assess whether annual targets remain appropriate while ensuring the mandate supports investment, innovation, competitiveness and consumer choice.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">2030 deadline remains:<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The government confirmed that its core targets remain unchanged: new petrol and diesel cars will be phased out by 2030, while all new cars and vans must be fully zero-emission by 2035.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The consultation will examine how the UK can reach those goals while keeping the automotive sector competitive and EVs affordable and accessible.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Drivers can also access grants of up to \u00a3500 for home chargers, potentially cutting installation costs for landlords, flat owners and renters by almost half.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UK drivers can save up to \u00a31,400 a year on running costs by switching to electric vehicles, with EV sales jumping 45% year-on-year in July and more than 1 in 4 new cars now electric.
