Egypt emerged as Africa’s most represented country in the latest US News Best Global Universities Rankings, placing 12 institutions among the continent’s top 30 universities and accounting for nearly half of the list.<\/p>\n

The ranking, which assesses universities based on research performance and academic reputation, highlights Egypt’s growing presence in global higher education and research. While South Africa’s University of Cape Town<\/a> retained its position as Africa’s highest-ranked university, Egypt secured six of the continent’s top 10 spots and more institutions in the top 30 than any other African country.<\/p>\n

Cairo University leads Egypt:<\/h4>\n

Cairo University<\/a> ranked second in Africa and 221st globally, making it Egypt’s highest-ranked institution in the US News rankings.<\/p>\n

The university was followed by Mansoura University, which placed fifth in Africa, while Al Azhar University ranked sixth and Ain Shams University secured eighth place on the continent.<\/p>\n

Alexandria University and Zagazig University tied for 10th place in Africa, giving Egypt six universities among the continent’s top 10 institutions.<\/p>\n

Egypt builds strong presence across top 30:<\/h4>\n

Beyond the top 10, Egyptian universities continued to feature prominently throughout the ranking.<\/p>\n

Assiut University ranked 13th in Africa, followed by Tanta University (16th), Kafrelsheikh University (17th), Benha University (21st), Menoufia University (24th), Beni-Suef University (25th), and Suez Canal University (27th).<\/p>\n

The results underscore the breadth of Egypt’s higher education system and its growing contribution to academic research across multiple disciplines.<\/p>\n

South Africa retains top spot:<\/h4>\n

Despite Egypt’s dominance in representation, South Africa remained home to Africa’s highest-ranked institution, with the University of Cape Town ranked first on the continent and 122nd globally.<\/p>\n

South Africa placed seven universities among Africa’s top 30, including the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Johannesburg, Stellenbosch University, the University of Pretoria, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, North-West University, and the University of the Western Cape.<\/p>\n

Research performance drives rankings:<\/h4>\n

According to US News, the Best Global Universities ranking evaluates institutions based on research performance and their reputation among academics worldwide and within their regions.<\/p>\n
