The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)<\/a> is providing a loan of up to $12.1 million (\u20ac10.4 million) to Kawar Energy, supporting the expansion of renewable energy projects in Jordan and reinforcing the country\u2019s transition toward a greener economy.<\/p>\n

The financing will help Kawar Energy optimize its balance sheet and enhance financial flexibility, enabling the company to accelerate the development of its renewable energy pipeline across Jordan.<\/p>\n

Supporting renewable energy growth:<\/h3>\n

Jordan has significantly expanded its renewable energy capacity in recent years, with clean energy accounting for a growing share of the country\u2019s electricity mix.<\/p>\n

According to the EBRD, the investment will contribute to Jordan\u2019s green transition by supporting a leading local renewable energy developer, strengthening private-sector participation, and promoting competition within the renewable energy market.<\/p>\n

Financing Paired With Skills Development<\/h3>\n

The financing package will be complemented by an EBRD-funded technical cooperation program aimed at strengthening skills development and promoting inclusive employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

The initiative will introduce a company-certified apprenticeship scheme targeting young professionals and deepen collaboration between Kawar Energy, local universities, and technical institutions.<\/p>\n

ESG and Biodiversity Standards to Be Enhanced<\/h3>\n

The loan will also support the implementation of a comprehensive environmental, social and governance (ESG) management system at Kawar Energy.<\/p>\n

The program includes an ESG<\/a> assessment, the development of policies and procedures aligned with European Union and national requirements, and a biodiversity action plan designed to ensure compliance with EBRD, EU, and national biodiversity standards for renewable energy projects.<\/p>\n

EBRD Highlights Commitment to Sustainable Growth<\/h3>\n

Long-Term Support for Jordan<\/h3>\n

The EBRD has operated in Jordan since 2012 and has invested more than \u20ac2.2 billion across 84 projects in the country.<\/p>\n
